No difference between Republicans and Democrats*. No difference at all.

*provided you’re a financially comfortable, straight, white male who won’t feel the consequences of a Republican authoritarian regime

@chopaganda You know there are many non-white, not straight, and financially insecure people who won't vote for either party, right?

chopaganda,
@chopaganda@shakedown.social avatar

@blueemu Yes. And plenty of African Americans and women will vote for Trump. Voting (or abstaining from voting) against one’s own interests is not uncommon.

None of this changes the truth that the brunt of the evil of a Republican regime will be aimed at minority groups, women, and the poor—while white men won’t have their lives disrupted.

blueemu,
@blueemu@shakedown.social avatar

@chopaganda The thing is, when you say that they are acting against their best interests, you are assuming you know what's best for them. It's paternalistic. I understand that you're trying to recognize our white privilege, and you're not wrong about R's being worse, but you shouldn't assume what the decision process is for marginalized groups you're not a part of.

chopaganda,
@chopaganda@shakedown.social avatar

@blueemu None of this changes the fact that marginalized groups will suffer the brunt of the evil of a republican regime while white men will not.

@chopaganda @blueemu Good convo. Tough subject to parse. One I’ve personally struggled with. My head agrees with Chop, my heart agrees with Blue. It’s no longer my place to tell marginalized or minority groups to vote lesser of two evils from my place of relative comfort. So I continue to work on my fellow males of European descent. Some still support Trump, and it’s all I can do not to scream at them and their cult like idiocracy.

@bethbjammin@shakedown.social avatar

@Stoneycase @chopaganda @blueemu Elections aren’t about having your cake and eating it too. In a society, the educated (and sympathetic) look out for those who lack forethought of the consequences of their choices. I worry about the guy who says “ObamaCare sucks” but needs it after an accident, the guy who says “food stamps are for welfare queens” but then his elderly mom needs to apply, the woman who votes with ideals of being the savior of glowing cherub fetuses dancing in her head (1)

bethbjammin,
@bethbjammin@shakedown.social avatar

@Stoneycase @chopaganda @blueemu and may cause the death of a beloved who can’t a have a medical procedure to finish a natural miscarriage, all those who say “Abolish taxes” while not accounting for red lights, public schools and road maintenance, the truck driver who makes $90k and thinks he’s in the top 5%… Voting with a social conscience accounts for those misled by lack of information, education and logic (2)

blueemu,
@blueemu@shakedown.social avatar

@bethbjammin @Stoneycase @chopaganda I jumped into this because I saw Chop, for the second time in as many days, invoke protection of marginalized people to shame everyone on the left who won't vote for Biden. I tried to explain why I think that's highly problematic and presumptuous, but I'm not really interested in parsing it further. What I do want to say is this:

Why the hell are you all so worried about leftists not voting when Joe Biden isn't. That's not me trying to insult 1/

blueemu,
@blueemu@shakedown.social avatar

@bethbjammin @Stoneycase @chopaganda Joe Biden, it's a fact. They literally asked him if the protests would affect policy and he said no. He's going for the moderate swing voters and hard. He's been a politician forever and he does not think he needs the left to win.

Why are you so mad at the left, then? And, as I have said before, if you think he's wrong, why aren't you pissed at him instead of the voters he has ignored?

chopaganda,
@chopaganda@shakedown.social avatar

@blueemu @bethbjammin @Stoneycase Because we saw similar versions of this movie in 2016 and 2000. And it turned out quite bad.

blueemu,
@blueemu@shakedown.social avatar

@chopaganda @bethbjammin @Stoneycase So Joe Biden is a fucking idiot, and it's his fault if Trump wins, not the fault of people whose votes he did not try to get, and who you constantly chastise.

chopaganda,
@chopaganda@shakedown.social avatar

@blueemu @bethbjammin @Stoneycase Tim, vote how you want. I mean that. I sincerely admire your conviction. But just as you are willing to put your feelings out there, I’m going to put mine out there.

To me this is a simple choice. We saw what happened in 2000 & 2016 under not-so-different circumstances. It did not turn out well. Plus, it’s an undeniable fact that Republican rule hurts women, minorities & the poor far more than straight, white men. So that is big on my conscience.

mrcompletely,
@mrcompletely@heads.social avatar

@chopaganda @bethbjammin @Stoneycase blocked that dimwit. I'm not here to be nice Imagine caring whose fucking fault it is? Thanks for chasing the morons into the light I guess

Stoneycase,
@Stoneycase@heads.social avatar

@chopaganda @blueemu @bethbjammin I’m voting Biden and encouraging all my friends and associates to as well. For all those reasons. Not gonna tell marginalized or minority groups that are mad at Biden, “Trump will be worse so just vote Biden”. That’s what I was trying to say.

Stoneycase,
@Stoneycase@heads.social avatar

@chopaganda @blueemu @bethbjammin Example, I was arguing with some folks from the Michigan Arab community that turned against Biden over the Gaza War. I’m from Michigan and familiar with those folks. Realized through much thought and reflection that it wasn’t my place to tell them Trump will be much worse for them. (1/2)

Stoneycase,
@Stoneycase@heads.social avatar

However I can tell the young folks in my immediate social group that are of European descent that they should not vote Trump or 3rd party, under any circumstance. Kinda moot living in California, but who knows what the future holds. Our state Dem party needs to be torn down and rebuilt but that’s a different battle. (2/2)

mrcompletely,
@mrcompletely@heads.social avatar

@Stoneycase leftist takeover of the democratic party is the only path there is long term. No one likes it and no one listens, but I've been saying it all along, I've always been right and time just keeps passing. It's not even complicated, just a lot of work and slow. But it has the advantage of actually being plausible

@mrcompletely @Stoneycase

Newsome v The Field in 2028 will hopefully push this along a little faster.
