And the last question (hope it's okay that this ended up being a Q8, @trouble)

Q8. What's the most recent thing you bought/added to your bike? Or clothing, or any cycling related thing. Anything new or fun?

@ascentale @trouble A8: Most recent new thing on the bike was replacing one of the runner boards with a board with a slot cut out so I can easily tow another bike.

Got to use it for real the first time yesterday returning a borrowed bicycle to a friend. Towed it about 8miles, was super easy/solid.

Here it is w/ my spouse's bike strapped on as a test:

@ascentale @trouble A8. Uhhhhhh I added a bubble machine on the back of my bike trailer. 🫣🚲🫧 My friend Molly had one and I asked her about it. It was very popular at and at ! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019QDNC92

@marcprecipice @ascentale @trouble omg that must be so fun

@lkanies @marcprecipice @ascentale @trouble seems a bit overpowered though, as bubble-making goes, I clicked through expecting to see something much much less serious like the device would be a clown holding a pinwheel of bubble wands, mine is a duck and it quacks while dispensing bubbles, I never quite got the mounting and remote activation worked out on the xtracycle though, someone should make one with a 7/8-ish clamp and wire to a remote button.

@ascentale @trouble A8. Rear cargo rack I found at a garage sale for $2. AWESOMENESS! Now I'm thinking fenders and panniers for full utility bike geekery! WOOOHOO!

@ascentale @trouble A8. I bought a new motor kit for my Cetma Cargo! It arrives on Monday. I gave up troubleshooting the old one and am just replacing the whole thing. At least now I’ll have some spare parts :)

@bikescape @ascentale @trouble Ooh, what did you end up getting?

bikescape,
@bikescape@mastodon.green avatar

@Andres4NY @ascentale @trouble I went with a new Tongsheng kit from Electrify Bike (I prefer the torque sensor over the Bagang cadence sensor for hauling cargo). The cost was more than ordering all the parts from AliExpress but I’ll get support from a US company that is active in developing the open source software and actually responds to email questions. They are also working on improving safety - they use XT90 power connectors and build their batteries with name-brand cells. I’m realistically hoping to get a couple of years of use from this kit before it dies. https://www.electrifybike.com/products/tsdz2b-osf-upgrade-motor-kit-250-750w (2/2)

@bikescape Cool. I'm keeping an eye on the DM02 (https://forums.electricbikereview.com/threads/toseven-dm-series-mid-motors.53373/). It's still a bit new for my taste and doesn't appear to have a light connector, but hopefully in a few years when my tsdz2 dies it'll still be available.

@ascentale @trouble A8: depends on how you count it! Either the spoke reflectors or if you include the cargo carrier I’ve been modding with new parts, the latest version of the front wheel mounting system. Less noise now, which I think we can all agree is good ^_^

@moira @ascentale please post pictures of your cargo carrier! I'm always interested in new and unusual ways to mount and carry things

@trouble @ascentale Oh I've posted a lot of pics as I've worked on it - I got it very cheap used off Craigslist and de-rusted it and sewed a new cover:

before and after:

Then the hard part, which involved building a mostly-3D-printable hitch adapter since the standard one doesn't fit on my bike:

and

Since then I've been playing with adding a third wheel and also trying to distribute weight a little better, where I was making a custom wheel out of a training wheel:
