Learned loads about lime quarrying and cement production today. The Brandenburg Gate’s materials came from here (and most everything else in Berlin you see today).

In the tunnels under the hill in pic #4 on the far right, the Nazi government hid the national science library from allied bombing and the GDR government had its emergency bunkers there.

Additional fun fact: the aristocrats owners were forbidden from cement production for a while because the air pollution was so bad that the local cattle farmers sued for stop of production to save their animals.

Just this week and not 15km away, Tesla was granted an extension of their factory despite the region being already starved for water and T needing and polluting ever more.

The stories are always the same, no matter the century.
