The internet is already off here, and apparently the cell coverage isn't great, so I have been reading a lot of alt text while I wait for photos to load, and sometimes just boop yer delightful alt text descriptions without ever getting to see the images.
In case you thought alt text didn't matter. #altText#altTextMatters
@vlrny I was late coming to social media and never considered Alt Text. I had no idea it was a thing until I came to Mastodon. Now I add it every time I post an image. But only on Mastodon! Weird.
@vlrny The first time I posted an image on Mastodon, I spotted the 'ALT' button and immediately knew what it was for. On FB you have to dig thru the Edit menu to add Alt Text.
@vlrny It was actually first created for just that reason and not as an accessibility aid. Its original purpose was for slow connections or what not that couldn't handle loading images and such.
@vlrny INdeed! Honestly several things seem to not start out as an accessibility feature but then become that, or vice versa. Dictation used to be more of an accessibility thing ,now it is just common use.
