Seems the test posts I made with Mona worked, but when I tried to log in with it later (already unexpected: I need to log in every time to use it?), it isn’t letting me in.
No error message, it just isn’t letting me past the 2FA screen.
And now that I’m using Ice Cubes to even get back on here, I can’t see those Mona posts in my own profile. Yet they’re there in my Notifications from when one was Liked by another person
@reay I saw you posted from Web instead of Mona, likely that you never successfully signed in. Recently Mastodon is under heavy load so things could get weird, so maybe try again later.
@skullvalanche@MonaApp On my iPhone. I tried it again and still couldn’t get on with it. Not sure if there’s a step I’m missing somewhere:
Fire up the app.
It asks me what instance I want to sign into. Then what my handle is for that instance, along with my password.
Then the 2FA page comes up. But at that point I’d won’t let me past, even with the right numbers dropped in.
@reay Try the “Sign in with Safari” option on the help page, that will allow you to directly sign in with the account you added in the Safari app, with no password/2FA required.
@MonaApp I’ll give this a shot, but I’m very confused by all of this.
From our brief interactions, it’s sounding like I somehow logged in through the web, but did so through opening the Mona app?
And now you’re a) saying logging in through Safari after the failed login through the app will resolve the issue, and even more confusing edging into concerning, b) that logging in through Safari doesn’t require the 2FA step.
Why wouldn’t it? Shouldn’t that always work? Isn’t that part of the point?
@MonaApp And how is it Mona seems to stumble over the 2FA part of the login? I’m no software dev, and don’t expect a detailed reasoning for it that would be way over my head anyway, but it’s odd to me that an app that understandably needs to learn how to log in as a client for its users wouldn’t be able to also manage an important (and recommended) security step of that login process.
Can that be broken down into layman’s terms so I can wrap my head around it?
@reay If you use the “Sign in with Safari” option, you will see this confirmation dialog from Apple, and if you select Continue, Safari will then share the Mastodon account you already signed in on Safari with the app. If you never sign in to Mastodon using Safari before, then you will still need to enter your account, password and 2FA.
@MonaApp@skullvalanche Looks like I’m in on Mona. The suggestion of going in through Safari worked. Though for the record I DID still had to do the 2FA step. It just handled that part better than Firefox did, and actually let me in.
