Is anyone else (not Nigel Farage) having issues with (business) being stupid?

They say they want us to confirm our business details. Well, OK, but they are all on Companies House, so seems a bit silly. But yeh, OK, will do.

They say they sent a form - we never got one, and it is not online. [found it now, its a stupid form, and no address to send to]

They sent a letter saying we have not filled in the form, but don't include the form with the letter!

Just getting really silly now.

@revk if someone is asking for information that they already have or can already obtain then what they're updating may be the purposes to which they're permitted to use the information.

@TechnicalAdept Well it is a company so usual protections (GDPR) are less applicable.

But yes, 90% of what they want, maybe more, is on Companies House. So really silly they ask.

I hope they cope with "country of residence" as "Wales" 🙂

WilliamLeech,
@WilliamLeech@mastodon.world avatar

@revk I'm fairly sure that the Country is United Kingdom, and the Nation is Wales (guess who lives with a political scientist specialising in devolution?)

revk,
@revk@toot.me.uk avatar

@WilliamLeech www.wales.com disagrees 🙂

ahnlak,
@ahnlak@kavlak.uk avatar

@revk it rarely appears on the list :(

revk,
@revk@toot.me.uk avatar

@ahnlak You are right, I should have said Cymru

ahnlak,
@ahnlak@kavlak.uk avatar

@revk true! But that's usually missing too 😞

Mind you, half the sites think I live in Gwent, so...!

@revk@toot.me.uk avatar

@ahnlak Yeh, Gwent went away in '96, last millennium!

My Doctors' surgery have me as Gwent and them as Monmouthshire.

I asked them to correct my personal information.

They were not able to cope. The systems (they contract someone to run) don't do it.

I suggested "You pay them to run it, and it is wrong, make them!"

And "point out it is a GDPR issue" (maybe, @neil ?)

No joy yet.

ahnlak,
@ahnlak@kavlak.uk avatar

@revk @neil half the Royal Mail systems believe it's Gwent, too. As do parts (but, I think, only parts) of MCC.

I mean, I like the name better than Monmouthshire, but it's still wrong.

tpuddle,

@ahnlak @revk @neil
In the same vein, the vast number of systems/websites which insist that Avon is a county. (Abolished 1996).
☹️

revk,
@revk@toot.me.uk avatar

@tpuddle @ahnlak @neil No hope if so recent as (does maths) 27 years!

ahnlak,
@ahnlak@kavlak.uk avatar

@revk @tpuddle @neil sorry, I refuse to believe 1996 is 27 years ago. Maybe 10?

jonnypencils,

@ahnlak @revk @neil I grew up in Abergavenny - it will always be Gwent to me :)

revk,
@revk@toot.me.uk avatar

@jonnypencils @ahnlak @neil Fair enough, I have only been here a little over 2 years, not the 27 years since it vanished (my comment on '70s was actually wrong, that was when it was created?!)

[did you know The Belmont?]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gwent_(county)

jonnypencils,

@revk @ahnlak @neil Yes knew The Belmont. Not one of our regular haunts as it was a little outside of town and a bit stuffy for us cool kids, but yeah, went there a few times. I left Abergavenny around 1995 and moved to Nottingham - now live not that far away in Gloucestershire. I go back now and again.

revk,
@revk@toot.me.uk avatar

@ahnlak @neil It's Sir Fynwy, surely 🙂

revk,
@revk@toot.me.uk avatar

Thanks for the tip - found the form in documents on-line, but it says to send back in pre-paid envelope, and does not state the address, and well, I don't have the envelope. Arrrg!

And 90% is stuff on Companies House. I mean they could at least have pre-filled all that stuff!

@revk earlier this year I applied for a job and was asked to restyle the contents of my CV into a form, plus 2 or 3 other bits of info. One bit of info was my NI number which is not required to apply for a job.

steve,
@steve@prattle.org.uk avatar

@revk Yes, frequently! I think they ask us to go through the full KYC procedure every two years at the moment.

Every time this procedure begins, they have forgotten all the information we gave them the previous time and have reverted to details that ceased being current around 20 years ago. They always reject the form and require us all to visit branches with documentation. (Not just the directors, some of the shareholders as well.)

steve,
@steve@prattle.org.uk avatar

@revk After the most recent go-around, they now refer to our company as "The Devonshire Arms" because there's a box on the form for "Trading as" that won't accept multiple values. (We currently have three sites.)

The form instructions say to put one name on the form and attach additional trading names in the supplementary information. That then appears to be ignored.

There doesn't appear to be an option for "just call the company by its name, dammit"!

revk,
@revk@toot.me.uk avatar

@steve Found the form... Yeh, the shareholders is an issue as we are joint shareholders, so the boxes don't make sense for that.

russss,
@russss@chaos.social avatar

@revk I've had a whole pile of hassle with this as I run a number of non-profits. I think they have to re-confirm details for every single business account to make sure they're not violating sanctions against Russia...

If you give them a call on the number on the letter I think that now goes to a helpful callcentre in Ireland (it used to go to a very unhelpful callcentre in India).

ninkosan,

@revk can confirm that what you’re dealing with there is a bank.
