I think another thing that might make mastodon easier is if admins could set accounts for you to auto-follow when you join, like on Pleroma or Akkoma.
I think on fuckcars.social I’m gonna make a few topic-based accounts that repost popular stuff / users and then have users auto-follow them. Then their feed is full and they can build a following easier.
Generally Mastodon doesn’t have a good story around manual curation. Users don’t want a list of users, they want a list of good posts. When I joined Bluesky, the ‘hot’ tab had really good content, cause all the popular creators were on it.
We don’t have that here, so we need to boost smaller creators that give the same ‘fix’. Mastodon’s explore page is realllyyyyy not good for that.
