Are there any client for iOS that do push notifications when your gempub feeds update? Or maybe if that is antithetical to Gemini hmmm

I should give more context on why I want this: I’ve been contemplating the idea of a private messaging app that uses the Gemini protocol where you can see unread messages via gempub. If I had a Gemini protocol browser that gave push notifications when pubs update, it could be pretty useful. On the flipside, maybe people using Gemini clients are using them because they like the fact that they don’t get push notifications like on the web. 🤔

The entire point behind the protocol is to prevent further complication. Hosting some random server that wants to make #Gemini dynamic or frilly will luckily never be a part of Gemini - and it's sticking to its guns, which is nice.

Admittedly, I abandoned it pretty fast, as I didn't develop a habit of making journals, it's a "me" thing. But if I'd ever find myself wanting to type into an empty wall, it would be Gemini first and my blog second (which I don't even have yet).

Wait, upon rereading, it seems I've misinterpreted your question. So, it's about getting notifications of your Gemini feed? I believe some desktop client had it, but I don't know about iOS...

indieterminacy,

@vintprox @rickcarlino Just create a Makefile to empower your client in the background and send a Growl type notification and be done with it.

is marvellous in its simplicity - it and (which is an Emacs format) serve the majority of my needs nicely.

You can add rules and inferences that other markdown or non markdown formats cant do because they have non minimal rules in place.

Adding complexity to and Gemtext kills capacity to experiment and improvise.

Pretty much my use right there. I like gemini for what it is and while my own postings are nfrequent? They're there.

I both get the annoyance that 'oh it doesn't have x y and z features' but also I get and agree with why those features don't exist. A line had to be drawn somewhere, and if you move that line once it will be tempted to move again, and again, and then we're back at the web.
