Deleted my reddit account and over a decade of comments
I'm all in on Lemmy
I'm all in on Lemmy
bowreality, I deleted my content and kept the account. Today I had some content back! It seems like they are restoring. I’ll keep my account to delete again and again if they do that.
LostCause, Me too and it is likely permanent, cause out of habit I went to Reddit today (without logging in) and a strong feeling of disgust overcame me. So it‘s either Lemmy or nothing for me at this point.
onepinksheep, So heads up: I've seen comments from some users that their deleted comments on Reddit had been restored. Haven't personally seen it myself as this is all anecdotal, but if you've deleted your comments on Reddit, you might want to go check from time to time.
kungfusion, I'm hopeful to see what this place will become!
bagoffools, My cake day is Jan 26. Next year my account will be 10 years old, and it will be its last day, if something really extraordinary happens.
ChimpanzeeThat, I've tried a few alternatives since Reddit closed and Lemmy by far feels like the logical replacement. Super simple and I can see how it'll just grow from here.
Raffster, 14 years old account here, posts and comments deleted. It certainly already feels like home here;)
MentallyExhausted,
Nachoman_Randy_Sandwich, I used redact today made things super easy.
vraylle, Same...15 year account.
hopper23, you can export first, then delete your reddit comments/posts in a few clicks using : https://github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite
themusicman, That's exactly what I did, with the extra step of editing all comments and posts to "Fuck u/spez"
tubbadu, Music to my ears
syrinori, I have really mixed feelings about all this. I don't support Reddit and it's stupid choices but deleting comments and such is more of a blow to the community and anyone who needs that past knowledge than it is to Reddit at large.
Searching the internet really sucks these days.
major_malarkey, I deleted my decade old account today also. Was gonna try to match my subs with communities and magazines but decided against it. Figured I'll stumble across things here like I did on Reddit
Bigpete, Same. 12 years of posts/comments.
Routhinator, Ditto. When they asked my why I was leaving my comment to the feedback team was "Bye bye /u/spez, the next Musk in the making"
AnonymousLlama, I'm keen to see how this pans out at the start of July when the API changes come into play. I'll most likely end up purging my accounts old comments and then deleting it, I'm not leaving anything behind that they can leverage.
If they really thought their userbase were a parasite on their resources, wait until I'm browsing their content without posting, engaging in comments or upvoting. Not really much you can do except migrate away and eventually reduce your interactions
TimberHearth, I’m keeping an ad-free old.reddit desktop account for if I need to a ask a question on a niche sub or something but no more daily posting, engagement, upvoting. I got gifted gold a handful of times so still had a bunch of coins etc but fuck em.
