ZaffreHue,

@Vivaldi I just wanted to take the chance to say how much I love the Vivaldi browser. I just stumbled across it one day by chance some years ago and since then, it's been my browser of choice on my laptop and my phone. Not only do I love all of the customization options, but what the beliefs of the Vivaldi team and they stand up for make me love the browser even more. The fact that you guys are so user-oriented and anti-cryptocurrency and against AI earns so much respect from me. I will continue to use Vivaldi and recommend it to everyone I know! Absolute favorite and love it so much 💝

@ZaffreHue @Vivaldi They're definitely anti crypto which I love them for too, but not necessarily anti AI I think. They're just against adding it in a browser without asking and without any apparent added benefit. Not to mention the copyright issues.

Ah, I understand, I appreciate the clarification! Regardless, the fact that Vivaldi doesn't push AI as a major feature of its browser is something I really appreciate. AI being hawked as a major feature in almost everything nowadays has always been an annoyance of mine, so it's refreshing to use a browser that makes a conscious effort not to follow that trend!

@ZaffreHue Thank you for those thoughtful words. It’s feedback like yours that adds to the team’s motivation at Vivaldi. And thank you, for spreading the word! 🙌🏽 🚀

@Vivaldi Wanna know what I would love? Automatic switching between horizontal and vertical tabs.

Does the tabs of the window fit horizontally? Put them at the top, if not then sidebar.

Feels a bit silly when you have a tab sidebar in a window with two tabs.

Interesting idea! 🤔

@Vivaldi @jon I wished the space between bookmarks in folders in the bookmark bar could be changed back to it like it was before the latest update. On a desktop browser I don’t need much space between bookmarks there. It’s also annoying that the text is now bold.

@gumbario For the time being, you can revert to the old menu design from Settings > Appearance > Menu > Compact Layout.

@Vivaldi and "automatic" setting means?

vekkq,
@vekkq@vivaldi.net avatar

@damien this feature is an import from Chromium. Its not much documented for Chromium either, so I doubt @Vivaldi will know.

From what I glimpsed from code and issues, there was an experimental heuristic mode that didn't work out and got deleted. This was the original automatic mode. Now, if I read it correctly, automatic does nothing.

It is rather complicated. 😅 As I've understood it (and I might be wrong), the setting takes into account the available RAM your machine has. Then it also checks how frequently you interact with the tab (e.g. a tab you check once a day should be hibernated a lot sooner than a tab that you check regularly). Also tabs that play audio, update frequently (e.g. mailbox), include forms, etc. are kept active for longer.
So some tabs maybe be hibernated after 10 minutes while others after a few hours.

But we do recommend keeping the Automatic option enabled. :tony_normal:

@Vivaldi

Was quite annoyed when I updated and was presented with stupidly large and spaced menus.

Had to spend 5 minutes to find the "Use compact layout" setting to get it back to normal...
