I don't think there's anything new happening; but generally, Discord is a for-profit company which stores everyone's chat history in plain-text on their servers and any files, images, video, etc... that you share are also publicly accessible (albeit, you'd need a link; but anyone with the link can get to files, I'm pretty sure).

So many look at Discord as "only a matter of time" before they start getting shitty and squeezing for money at the expense of their users' experience and privacy.

I'm not personally aware of Discord having sold data to third parties for money or anything... but I definitely don't like the idea that my data and chat history is just... sitting there, for anyone at the company to start profiling for... anything or nothing. Like, if I'm on a server and someone there starts mentioning piracy, am I someday going to get pulled into court for allowing conspiracy to commit crimes to happen unchecked in a server I happen to follow?

Anyway, I keep my eyes out for something good to come along with more privacy; but I'm also not racing to get off the platform quite yet.
