1: choose the right platform

this is an ad trying to make people worry about platforms. willingness to learn is enough, it really doesn't matter if the platform is teaching you the wrong way, as soon as you grasp the subject enough to have a base you will see where your education was shoddy and improve yourself.

Additionally, when I was teaching myself web dev, the things that helped most with retention were:

  1. a tight feedback loop (learn something, use it, see if it worked, if not, find out why) which allowed for experimentation and tinkering
  2. working on personal projects beyond just tutorials, since they made me care about what I was working on and I got to see how the concepts I learned could be practically applied
