Zuck is targeting #Twitter & #Bluesky in one swoop. The #EU's #DigitalMarketAct requires no user lock-in and that messaging apps be able to interoperate with other messaging apps. By having #Threads adopt #ActivityPub, #Meta fulfills those conditions (note: account migration to #Mastodon will be allowed).
The #birdsite's ticket to complying with the Act is via #Bluesky's ATP protocol. But with Bluesky struggling to scale up and Twitter in chaos , they're both very vulnerable to Threads.
@Norobiik Okay, that makes a lot more sense to me than the "Meta is trying to take over the Fediverse!" hypothesis.
Because let's face it, #Fediverse user numbers are still tiny. We are not big enough to poach from, but we might still function as Meta's trash heap...
@juergen_hubert The #Fediverse is Meta's golden key to getting access to EU's 500M audience. Conversely, the Fediverse is the EU's canary in the coal mine. They'll be keeping a close eye on Meta's behavior here via the EU #Mastodon instance that's already up.
Let's hope that's enough to keep Meta on it's best manners. They're a guest here, not lord & master.
