Zuck is targeting & in one swoop. The 's requires no user lock-in and that messaging apps be able to interoperate with other messaging apps. By having adopt , fulfills those conditions (note: account migration to will be allowed).

The 's ticket to complying with the Act is via 's ATP protocol. But with Bluesky struggling to scale up and Twitter in chaos , they're both very vulnerable to Threads.

@Norobiik Okay, that makes a lot more sense to me than the "Meta is trying to take over the Fediverse!" hypothesis.

Because let's face it, user numbers are still tiny. We are not big enough to poach from, but we might still function as Meta's trash heap...

@juergen_hubert The is Meta's golden key to getting access to EU's 500M audience. Conversely, the Fediverse is the EU's canary in the coal mine. They'll be keeping a close eye on Meta's behavior here via the EU instance that's already up.

Let's hope that's enough to keep Meta on it's best manners. They're a guest here, not lord & master.
