We have been seeing in ProtonDB data that Ubuntu has been progressively losing steam (and market share) amongst gamers, what do you think of this observed trend? Rings true or not?
@boilingsteam the past (no shit) 12 laptops in the last 15 years i've acquired all came from e-recyclers. they all still work (though i've either given them away, or don't use them), and all run Linux.
buying a "new laptop" (that isn't a Framework Laptop) doesn't compute. There are plenty of laptops with decades (plural) of life left in them, just avoid Windows and MacOS, and you've got a good tool available to use for many years!
Mine are gen 4 to gen 8 intel laptops, to be specific.
@mousey while its true that old laptops can last for a long time, modern cpus bring a huge performance boost. we are talking about 10x in the space of 10 years
@boilingsteam it does feel like the mere existence of the Steam Deck would begin to erode the share. I'm interested in what others' hypotheses are though.
