It’s likely the last weekend working on the cabin until spring.

@NunavutBirder looking wonderful! Are you happy with your progress?

@livus Thanks. Reasonably happy. Always wish I was further along. Lots to do. But the process is always satisfying. Mostly always.

@NunavutBirder This is an achingly gorgeous image. You're going to enjoy it so much when you're done. Seems like a perfect spot.

@lawyersgunsnmoney Thank you. It is a great spot. And it’s next to family which makes it better.

@NunavutBirder Beautiful shot!

Curious, what are you using for internet there? You talk about watching YouTube, so it must be half decent?

NunavutBirder,
@NunavutBirder@mas.to avatar

@kevinlovestech Expensive and slowish. I use Bell mobile. My kids use Starlink but I refuse to. But it’s there money so…

@NunavutBirder I didn't even expect you to have cell service unless you visit town. Figured it had to be some sort of satellite connection either way.

Surprised Bell has anything there, but it sounds like you at least have cellular data, though expensive and slow.

Yeah, I could see using Starlink out of necessity. Glad you don't have to.

@NunavutBirder My Mom just got back from house and pet sitting near Millet, AB. Xplornet piggybacking on Telus cellular data for internet. At best 45Mbps download with a good router, but not very reliable.

@kevinlovestech It’s been an adventure over the years. When I got here I had dialup from my last post. Long distance over crappy phone lines.

Current iteration has issues. And is expensive. But it works.

@kevinlovestech Cell services are relatively new. We have two options here. SSI and Bell. Coverage is basically town. Bell extends a little further. I can’t quite get service at the cabin. But if I cross back over the river and stand in a specific spot I can get a bar. There are a few places along the trail with service. I pretty much stop on the way back at a place just as the trail starts down the hill to text my wife that I’m on my way home.
