The front page seems to work alright most of the time but when I try to load any thread it either loads so slowly(sometimes like 30+ seconds) that I end up closing the page or I get hit with a Error 50x page that has been saying "Over the next few days, there will be a change in server infrastructure." for a long time....
Makes sense. Though I'll note I find folks find help via methods of others asking for the same thing so a Kbin user could easily come across this post trying to find an answer to a similar problem. That being said, I don't have a good suggestion for a workaround so leads me back to "makes sense."
“Hurt dogs sure do holler.” That was the saying that came to mind in 2008 when then-candidate for president Barack Obama drew outrage from Republicans because he described their voters as “bitter” people who “cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them.” The phrase came to mind again...
(A little tip for kbin users who are tired of clickbait: If you click here and press the block button, you won't see any more posts from Salon.com. :) )
To be fair, it’s probably an LTT fanboy who systematically downvoted all the posts, and started with the ones that were recently active. But it’s not like the LTT audience is foreign to using automation or harming others/raging.
All votes are public.
No. All votes are public to instance owners. Plus I’m not convinced that only votes drive “activity” (If you wanna prove me wrong, you’re free to go check the source. THAT is actually public).
Edit: please see below about votes being public or not, before drawing premature conclusions, they are not public. But there’s nuance, hence me striking the “absolute” text out.
At least from kbin so there’s no conspiracy. You can see who upvoted and who downvoted.
Kbin only shows favorites. They don’t show actual upvotes/downvotes (which is a good thing IMHO).
But it’s not like you would check anything properly before opening your mouth… Which I reckon is a very annoying, and widespread trend. I mean you can clearly see the post has 8 upvotes, 18 downvotes; and kbin shows 10 “favorites”. How does that even compute for you? 🤦♂️
Edit: I was made aware by @ImaginaryFox and @conciselyverbose - both kbin users, this is not a fluke - that “upvotes and downvotes are actually visible”. I have not been able to confirm that. However, given that this information is clearly available to instance admins (and to the software, obviously), it is very likely that kbin developers decided to show this information to (kbin) registered users, to narrow the information/power gap between admins and users. They also (wisely) kept this information behind an id-wall, as it is really sensitive information, especially if made crawl-public (it is much more revealing of user behavior than their posts or comments; and therefore that much more valuable for profiling).
Besides, to bury a post, you actually have to make the other ones active… smh
I’m eagerly awaiting your single word insult answer, or something equally enlightened.
Kbin only shows favorites. They don’t show actual upvotes/downvotes (which is a good thing IMHO).
But it’s not like you would check anything properly before opening your mouth…
No. The reduces tab is what downvotes are registered as. Not all instances are in sync so it records what it can as opposed to only kbin users. That's the nature of decentralization so votes will be different from instance to instance.
Anyways, I downvoted your comment as a example and you should see my username pop up. It's public on kbin.
Make only each account’s 5 most recent upvotes effect post rank. In effect this would make vote sellers need to make many more accounts to be useful, they would need to churn upvotes....
@driph Question: I just did my first EA DCFC. When I unplugged, I noticed my CCS pins had one pin without a black cap (on the left) and the right side has the black cap on the pin. Is this right? Does it matter? I’m obviously new at this and since you have the identical car, I figured I’d ask.
@Aaron yeah, I use it as an info resource now more than a community, and not at all on mobile. Spending more time on kbin, but federated reddit has been slow to grow.
How much of this works with Mastodon and Pixelfed?
Hi, @AskKbin community! (ง ื▿ ื)ว
I created a couple of groups on a #Lemmy instance to see how well they got along with #Mastodon & #Pixelfed. Even though I could create posts from Mastodon comments made from Lemmy were invisible to Mastodon users and vice versa.
I like the fact that #Kbin allows tagging contents in magazines. Is there something else I should know to post from other socials?
@detun3d
I’m also testing to see how much of this is viewable, votable and commentable from Pixelfed, Mastodon and Lemmy. It would be awesome if everyone could post, comment, like and share regardless of the part of the fediverse they registered at. But I haven’t been able to view this post from Kbin or view it’s mastodon comments from Lemmy.
My understanding is that the imgur thing is imgur's fault, but until the image upload functionality is working I don't really know what the best choice is.
Bugger, it worked back when I tested it a couple months ago, that's going to impact whether I stay with Kbin or go with Lemmy. Maybe just a normal image link will work?
Actually, the way you posted this worked pretty well. The only thing wrong is that fedia.io doesn't federate with lemmy.ml either, so your thumbnail doesn't load on Fedia. Your thumbnail works fine on other Kbin instances.
Thank you for the shout out over on artporn@lemm.ee ♥. You won't be able to crosspost directly here from lemmy.ml or read my response there.
::: spoiler It seems lemmy.ml doesn't federate with fedia.io
possibly because I block dessalines for being a tanker

I'm not sure how you do it on Lemmy, but on Kbin, most of my articles use the "Add new thread" page. I can upload a 5MB thumbnail along with it. But, it's also possible to just embed an image on Kbin with a specially formatted tag...sometimes. This qualifies for #airswimming tag, but I haven't figured out how Lemmy users can post new things with the tags.
I don’t think kbin (excluding artemis.camp) supports API use yet so that’ll be a no. Also kbin is different than lemmy (still federated over activitypub but different platform) so it needs to specifically be supported, won’t work with a lemmy client.
It's the landing page of Kbin by default. I cannot change it.
I don't think I've even advocated for the person to specifically include the instances in post titles; just that identifying it is helpful when asked. Instead, dude above went off calling people functionally dumb for asking.
What are you talking about? The context is the community the post is posted into. The federated experience is that you explore any posts, threads, or communities from any instance. If I have a community called !tabletopnews, do you want me to post “New table-top news!” in every single post title just to make it clear? This post was posted to a community for discussing sh.itjust.works. If your app isn’t showing you that information, that’s a bug, not an issue with posters. Imagine if every post didn’t show what community it was from, what poster posted it, or what it was in response to, but only if you used a particular app. Would you get huffy at other users for not copy and pasting every comment they were replying to into their own comment because you needed to ask for the context and provenance from every user directly? I’m sorry if the people in the community for discussing sh.itjust.works are a little annoyed that there’s a huge controversy at a large number of users from one particular instance not knowing it wsa for discussing sh.itjust.works because kbin doesn’t show what communities posts come from. But it’s a very active community, and putting “In regards to sh.itjust.works:” in every title would be like if you wanted to required every post to !news be labeld “[News]”
@jcrabapple The cache remains local. You see no files showing up on your storage? If you see no files in your storage and no new images on kbin, you could have entered settings incorrectly (check url, region, endpoint and public or private). If you have no files in your S3 (compatible) storage but you do have images on kbin, there is something wrong with the flyup or elsewhere. Did you export the .env, rebuild the app (as if you did an upgrade) and restart php (if you use caching)?
I'm a mod over at lemmy.ca/c/torontobluejays, and a subscriber there who subs from Kbin mentioned in a post that they have not been able to see the bot-posted game day threads that are posted for each days Blue Jays Game. I've created an account here to confirm that, and it's the same for me as well. I also don't see any...
I have mentioned before how extremely impressed I am with pages such as the Japanese SDE guide that has not one but several "Meta" lists, including an environmental characters and equipment summary that lists excellent characters across sensible roles such as general DPS, attribute-specific attacker, support, and even "tank"....
Kbin has been... something... lately. Their feature work has been very busy so there's a number of things that are gonna wobble.
Figured your answer would be to use Chrome. I use it at work, but avoid the Big G when I'm able in my personal usage. May have to break out my dirty box that I don't care what is on it. lol
Wow I am not sure how I found your reply - my notifications on kbin have been broken for days now, saying I have some but "We are working on resolving the issues" every time I click it, even after re-logging in.:-)
On desktop, my Chrome just automatically offers to translate it. On my Android Chrome it can do that as well. On desktop Firefox there are several plugins that can do it - e.g. "TWP - Translate Web Pages", which I just tested does function for the Hidden Superboss ranking page - though I tend to use multiple browsers simultaneously all the time and for this task I always just use Chrome. For mobile Firefox... I do not think there is a way, at least with the version of the app in the App/Play Store, although I have heard that plugins/addons (all? some? I do not know) are available for precisely that purpose in the nightly release/build version.
If I go to Google Translate, click on "Websites" and paste the URL, it does not work:-(.
So I just use Chrome. I hate Chrome. But in this case, it works:-). Fwiw, there are zero ads iirc, unlike e.g. Altema's site that is horrid with them (so in THAT case I very much go to the trouble to switch to Firefox - I love Firefox, mostly:-), although I did not test for any trackers.
Pixelfed (alternativa ao Instagram) está adicionando Grupos, semelhante a Comunidades, que serão federados com Lemmy, Kbin e Mastodon!
Aos poucos o Fediverso vai crescendo! 😉 #fediverse#fediverso#pixelfed
kbin.social has been unusably slow lately?

Where are folks hosting images they want to post to kbin? Uploading images never works for me, and using imgur link gets no thumbnail.
