A rare look inside one of the private nursing agencies plundering our public healthcare system.
#Canadian Health Labs billed taxpayers $1.6M for meals for nurses who paid for their own food, fees up to $300/hr per nurse, staff cab rides, nurse certification classes, furniture, pet transport and, in one case, an air fryer. 🤔
Massive staffing crisis = a "level of desperation that agency companies thrive on."
Public sector workers' rights don't just go away because the government passed a bill limiting their compensation. Teachers, nurses, and others should be properly paid for their essential work. Keeping hospital workers underfunded in a pandemic while running a multi-billion $ surplus is unconscionable.
"Emergency rooms are closed, there's a nursing shortage, a housing crisis, classrooms are over crowded, and Covid deaths are on the rise, but don't worry folks, the Ontario Conservatives are once again laser-focused on making it slightly easier for us to get beer."
With availability starting in 2026. An election year.
"Last year, #DougFord gave 43 of his MPPs a raise of $16,600 each, while he continued to fight nurses in court to keep #Bill124, a wage suppression legislation that was deemed unconstitutional by an #Ontario court.
MPP Steve Clark still gets to keep his cozy MPP job while making more $$ than nurses who save lives daily. Nurses are losing their homes and resorting to food banks. Steve only lost a feather from his hat. He remains well off as an MPP."
An Ontario toddler's life-saving heart surgery has been cancelled for 4th time in a year.
“The Hospital for Sick Children told [mother] it was because there wasn’t an ICU nurse available to provide the 24/7, one-on-one care for her child following the surgery”
Similar to other hospitals across the province, #SickKids is experiencing "ongoing health human resources challenges across the hospital."
🔥 "I do not recall numerous emergency departments closing all across #Ontario, like this year, having been a physician since 1992.
There’s only one explanation and it is at the feet of Premier Doug Ford. He’s failed to put the welfare of Ontarians first."
The Carleton Place Hospital Emergency will be closed this weekend from 4 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Saturday and again from 7 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. on Sunday.
"This week, the Ford #Conservative govt is in court spending your tax dollars to ensure that nurses, paramedics, teachers, firefighters etc continue to have their pay frozen and that the govt can legally impose contracts on them. This decision will become common law. And we wonder why we have a shortage of nurses and teachers."
Reminder:
"Since becoming Premier in 2018, Doug Ford and his #Conservative govt have added $57 billion dollars to Ontario's debt. All while capping wages, cutting services and underfunding healthcare, education and autism programs.
This is "fiscal Conservatism". YOU don't save money, but the wealthy sure do smile."
"The glee with which Doug Ford and his #Conservative government seems bent on ensuring the untenability of public health care in this province is, frankly, maniacal.
There is something deeply cruel and rotten in the hearts of the Ford government."
All rural communities in Ontario should be paying attention to what's happening in Minden because they could be next.
"If you think this hospital closure can’t come to a town or suburb or city near you, think again.
The bridge from for-profit surgical clinics to private groups of MDs offering ER services is closer than you think."
