#bookstodon#BluesBrothers #WhatImReadingNow is The Blues Brothers, by Daniel de Visé, about the making of the movie by that name. For someone who grew up in the 50s 60s and 70s like I did, this is a fascinating reminiscence of those times. 1st couple chapters are exclusively on John Belushi & where he came from, & then gradually other contemporaries he played with come in, #SecondCity, #Lemmings. Haven’t got to #SNL yet. Recommend.

Then there’s a biographical chapter on Dan Ackroyd. A wild and crazy guy who grew up in Ottawa. Went to a Catholic high school being groomed for the priesthood. They invited him to leave after 2 years. After graduating HS, he was in the Toronto version of Second City, and ran an unlicensed bar under his apartment.

Making my way slowly thru the book. I’m largely ignorant of the music they celebrate and the artists who made the music. It was Dan who turned John onto the stuff. Dan wrote the original 300+ page screenplay. It seems to be a thing here to showcase musical clips, so I’m gonna do some of that. They opened an SNL episode in November 1978. https://youtu.be/FTWH1Fdkjow?si=QcfR6-5KB_QJvgX8 #bookstodon#BluesBrothers#WhatImReadingNow#SecondCity#Lemmings#SNL

@vlrny@DrSuzanne That was enjoyable! I don’t quite have the hang of synchronized movies, but it’s fun to know others are watching the same film. Thanks for the suggestion. #bluesbrothers
#bluesBrothers ya know, I really didn't register the absurdist surreal plays in this movie before (like swat swarming a building while the brothers stand in an elevator with muzak playing). These contrasts are brilliant!
