I wonder why when men have to wait in line for bathrooms that problem gets fixed so quickly? 🤔

No, no, don't tell me, I will figure it out eventually … /s

Willamette Valley folks! This weekend, Corvallis, Oregon will be home to a real killer event! A hoard of wonderful folks and groups like No Bonzo, Detritus Books, PM Press, Crimethinc, Mid-Valley IWW, and many more will be tabling for the Heart Of The Valley Anti-Capitalist Bookfair. Plenty of informative events, workshops, and book talks. If you're in the Mid-Valley region, stop on by!

We're currently having an Arctic blast here in the Pacific Northwest and I just cannot stop thinking about the homeless folks who are going to die from the complete lack of shelter available in our state. In Corvallis, our useless city council has failed, for years, to meaningfully shelter and help homeless folks during harsh weather, or at all. So, Linn-Benton County folk, if you do make it out and about today, please help someone get to a warming shelter.

This is extremely my jam. Forget the calendar. Spooky season starts tomorrow.

This week in and around Corvallis, OR, you can help clean up our river by boat, hear a science talk about beavers, get your hands in the dirt restoring an Indigenous first foods area or cleaning up a native plant garden, and even watch a rehabilitated owl be released over a glass of local wine. Not bad for the first week of summer in a college town.

RAIN. Not just a teasing sprinkle but a proper soak. We get more than our share in the winter, but from June to September, it always feels like a gift. Excuse me while I stand in it grinning like a wet idiot.

This week around Corvallis, Oregon, we've got a big engineering expo, some river and habitat cleanups, and a webinar on gardening for bees. Lots to do, and pretty good weather to do it in.

Spring is turning into summer here in Corvallis, Oregon, and that means nighthawks in the sky, a changing cast of wildflowers and the last few OSU science talks of the year. Plus volunteer opportunities to help clean up trails and a very cool documentary on sound at the Darkside:

This week, there are so many science and nature things to do in my little college town of Corvallis OR. If you happen to like pulling weeds and don't have enough of your own, what a week. There are at least three conservation pulling events. (Even if you don't, come out and help restore some habitat.)

Most notably, in a town known mostly for agriculture, wildlife and ecology, we have a world class physics talk tomorrow night.

This Friday in Corvallis, OR, the Northwest's biggest collection of insects and other arthropods (over 3 million specimens) is open to the public for a rare open house and guided tours.

There are also a bunch of plant-related events happening this week -- workshops, talks, etc -- but the bug tour is the highlight. That's where I'll be on Friday.
