Any or folks able to help?

I have 2 lights in my living room.
When both lights are off, the switch rockers are not in the same position, whic is very frustrating.
When I look at the wiring I am so confused.

Things to note in the photos - those two black cables going into a separate little block.

WTF is going on here?

There are no other lights or switches involved - it's not a "stair light" setup.

Halp?

the same wall switch detechaed from the wall. Messy and grubby wiring is visable.
Another angle of the same polug and wiring.

HELP! Outdoor electric, internet, & water... to a cabin 20 metres from house.

For the log cabin in my friend's garden, she needs to do cabling (internet, electric, water).

We just aren't sure what cables to get, or considerations like how deep the trench needs to be, & if the cables are going to need a sturdy tube to run through, etc.

Can anyone give us advice on any or all of this? :ablobthinkingeyes:

Very grateful for help/reposts.

Because my current requires actual real world shit, today I shall also be attempting to port this spaghetti over to this new . I shall either blow myself up, blow the house up or manage it just fine and prove that I'm the king . What is nice though, you see that blue wire? This is the first switch I'm replacing in my house that has a neutral available! 🥹

can I reuse the sheathed copper wiring inside cut power cable leads, or is that a stupid question..

(SOLVED) Ok, putting out the batsignal to / Mastodon. I'm at a friend's house troubleshooting an utterly bizarre electrical issue. It's a 1970s UK property and was rewired from wirewound fuses to a consumer unit a while back. During that work they had to split the socket rings into one single long spur. Everything works, mostly. But today they chased a channel and added an additional socket, and the socket MCB trips even when the new wire is just connected to nothing.

Dear , preferably from the EU, have you ever seen a 3x63A overvoltage/surge protector go into a weird mode where phase 1 went to 23V, phase 2 to 130V and phase 3 to 380(!)V? Asking for a friend at my office where we just had a microwave explode and more weirdness, but after we removed the fuses and waited for 10 minutes it went back to normal and we got the 230V/Phase it is supposed to deliver.

Can someone who knows anything about household wiring explain to me why sockets in the UK & Ireland tend to be at floor level (except for kitchens)? Is it a purely aesthetic thing, or are there practical reasons for this?
