GABAARs: not just inhibitory? This study of striatal spiny projection shows that is a state-dependent , and not simply an inhibitory one, suggesting a revision of the role of intrastriatal signaling https://plos.io/3SGKafq

I take way to many in general. At night I take , , , , , , and . None of those are supposed to interrupt but here we are; mind's racing, heart rate's up, stomach's a little upset.

Which one do you think it is?

Here is our paper! My #research shows how certain adult neurons resist activity changes.

On a macro level, this could provide a new hypothesis for why adults exhibit resistance to #learning, #anxiety, and #addiction.

A key question is why? It may not only be a negative byproduct of age but could be an evolutionary advantage to resist trauma or external influence after we've found "successful strategies" while younger.

IsaacOstlund,

In response to a few questions people have asked:

We used whole-cell patch-clamp #electrophysiology to record the activity of single #neurons.

The "resist changes" refers to #neuroplasticity. We found a reduction in long-term depression, or #LTD, in adult mice after high frequency stimulus (HFS) compared to adolescent mice.

These cells are specifically #GABA releasing cells in the ventral tegmental area (#VTA ), where GABA can regulate dopamine release throughout the #brain.

Lots of handy info in this paper on inhibitory interneurons.

karihoffman,

@DrYohanJohn this is a great reference work I use in class! Does anyone out there have something more recent? That is, are there important revisions to this story that I should be teaching?

Also, should we not just cave and call them cells rather than , given the importance of ergic projection neurons? (Not trolling the developmental people who see gaba excitation).

A little diary.

In this thread I will document my tea tasting journey.

turbobureaucrat,

All the names of #Gaba teas I've seen are unusual compared to classic ones (e.g., Longjing or Jin Jun Mei). However, as far as I know, they are based on other existing teas. The difference is in the fermentation type. It's oxygen-free for Gaba.

turbobureaucrat,

Here is the already mentioned #Gaba Diamond #tea. I’ve put just 7 grams, and how big it went!😅

turbobureaucrat,

The first stop on the renewed #tea road is Sapphire #GABA #Oolong. It is said to be classic GABA with medium fermentation and roasting. And it is just like that. Well-balanced tea with a jam-like sweet aroma.

turbobureaucrat,

This #GABA opal made from Hong Shui #tea was as good as my beloved GABA diamond. Or maybe I was not that attentive when tasting it to discover any kind of significant difference.🙃

turbobureaucrat,

#GABA Emerald #tea. Its fermentation is so weak that it turned out to taste like Tie Guan Yin after multiple brewing.😅

turbobureaucrat,

#GABA Amethyst #tea. Heavily roasted GABA tea differs from its siblings and strongly reminds me of Da Hong Pao. It has some GABA-specific aroma, but not enough to compete with its roast. And if it was the case, I would surely add it to my collection. It would then be the “brutality” tea.

Another interesting characteristic is that leaves do not unwrap on brewing.

turbobureaucrat,

#GABA Topaz #tea. This GABA has a strong fermentation and indeed feels like GABA.

Preparing for the new #tea journey through India and Georgia. Visiting the Dan Cong as well as light #oolong families.🙂

The most unusual thing to taste — #GABA Shen Puehr.

@tea

turbobureaucrat,

Yesterday I tried #GABA Shen puehr, and what I felt was the milder version of the Simao #Shen #puehr #tea I already have. I didn’t feel the bright sweetness which I usually notice in a well-fermented GABA. I have one more portion of the tea, and maybe I’ll feel more the next time.😊
