I’m just going to say it here since it popped into my mind.

It’s better to reciprocate a lending hand than slap it away because it interferes with your ego.

Response to Aral Balkan whom has blocked me. It really is telling when someone does this.

Now, I see a whole lot of people professing their undying love of the Houthi. This keeps getting better and better! /s

Why are folks in the US suddenly all tunnelling ?

robertnorlyn,

@kcarruthers I think I’m going to make a tunnel too, looking at the way everything is going!

Steps to gaining the international community’s support:

  1. Start a war by bombing straight through your neighbor’s defenses.
  2. Invade and kill around a thousand people in order to kidnap around two hundred to do with what you like later.
  3. Have cells in other countries protest neighbor’s “occupation” the very next day. Have them tell everyone they are “freedom fighters.”
  4. Don’t protect your people when war happens.
  5. Emphasize failure to protect people.
  6. Declare “genocide” at .42% deaths.

We can't even enjoy a goofy weird story in peace ffs. Everything has to be a thing.

robertnorlyn,

@dukepaaron I knew it was bound to happen immediately after the story first broke.

Is there a safety reason why power lines shouldn't be run underground?

robertnorlyn,

@Adam_Cadmon1 It is more expensive as many have mentioned but there is reason for that. In order to install lines underground one needs to consider the heat generated by those lines. There should be sufficient circulation and protection for underground lines (not typically a large city concern). Also, it is easier for the company to fix hanging lines than underground ones in rural areas.
It’s far more common for data lines to be run underground.

“Independent contractors” have been used as a dodge for some employers for decades. It’s uncertain hours, no health insurance, no benefits, and the off chance they will be terminated for a little or no reason.

If you think society can be cohesive on gig working then you're living in the wrong century, as well as the wrong millennium.

Good step from the Biden administration.

New Biden rule on gig workers: What to know:
https://qz.com/gig-worker-rules-biden-department-of-labor-1851152373

robertnorlyn,

@TonyStark I had what I thought was a great job working on VPS systems back in 2006. I was hired as a contractor. Man was that a mistake. And a great many jobs that would otherwise be awesome tend to be.

robertnorlyn,

@TonyStark Absolutely, they get double slammed with costs to do their job and aren’t even afforded benefits! It’s madness. I have had some interesting conversations with people where those are their career paths. Drivers get screwed with vehicle costs and laborers’ health needs are scoffed at by their employers. In some cases it really bites because they offer joke insurance a lot of the time.

Saw a post today that said the Jews should have been given a country in Finland.

There has to be a term for this practice of reimagining the various places they would have dumped the Jews right?

It's a pretty constant topic.

robertnorlyn,

@dukepaaron I’m pretty sure it’s ignorant antisemitism.
They keep acting like the Arab population has more rights to lands that they violently conquered, literally colonization, and controlled before it became posh to just randomly call any European originated population that.
I truly wonder if they understand indigenous communities at all. It’s like if Americans, that didn’t accept indigenous peoples, were being kicked out by the indigenous population they would have the same problem.

robertnorlyn,

@dannotdaniel They are looking to appeal to the simple farmers. People of the land. The common clay of the Florida marshes. You know, morons.

If you’re on team “we’re defeated, we already lost”, please just stay away from me.

I work really hard at change and I just don’t have time for defeatism. Reality is fine. Defeatism is not fine and there’s been a lot of it today.

It’s January 6th. Yes. The insurrection, which I’ve already posted about today, was a dark day. Incredibly dark. But they did not win and they still haven’t. No defeatist ideology. Zip.

robertnorlyn,

@TonyStark Challenges and great odds are never defeat in my mind. If I had an attitude to the contrary I’d say that I wouldn’t be here today.

anyone who suggests "the candidates are the same" ever again is getting blocked by yours truly.

anyone who thinks "not voting" is the answer, or supporting a 3rd party candidate with everything on the line - is getting blocked by yours truly

any questions? No? Good.

robertnorlyn,

@dannotdaniel The attitude that the candidates are the same is such an outdated and apathetic position that it indicates an unhealthy level of ignorance. It is a deeply flawed and dangerous way to think about politics.

Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko just signed a law that gives him lifelong immunity from prosecution

It also bars exiled opposition leaders from participating in presidential elections

The Republican official response:

robertnorlyn,

@flexghost It’s what Trump thought he did for himself while in office. Apparently, according to his lawyers he was “misled.”

Despite Republicans constantly wailing about crime in cities, crime is down.

So weird. It’s like they’re just trying to scare the crap out of their base. 🤨

After Rise in Murders During the Pandemic, a Sharp Decline in 2023-

robertnorlyn,

@TonyStark It’s crazy that it works too! They just say crimes aren’t being addressed or reporting isn’t happening. It’s kind of maddening talking with a republican about crime. It’s like talking to someone with Stockholm syndrome.

America isn’t “full.”

  1. Without people coming here, our birth rate is such that the population would be declining.

  2. Just looking around, there’s a lot of empty space out there.

  3. Unemployment is very low.

  4. People who come here to work, including on guest worker programs, pay taxes and help fund other programs.

Republicans’ idea is to claim the U.S. is full and to deport people.

America is 'full,' Lindsey Graham says -
https://www.politico.com/news/2023/12/31/lindsey-graham-immigration-00133364

robertnorlyn,

@azphilosopher @TonyStark The U.S. has always relied on an influx of migrant workers. Particularly, after spreading from “sea to shining sea.”
These “republicans” just seem determined to undermine and destroy everything that interferes with what ever improves lives around them.
