As expected, the #longtermsick will be targeted by #Tories & 'incentivised' by a withdrawal of #benefits to 'get back to work'... this is the policy reflection of a common right-wing view that #workers are shirkers who use health as a mask for laziness.
That the sorts of rubbish jobs they'll be pushed into are a problem for health in the first place is immaterial to Tory ideologues!.
When such prejudice drives policy, its clear the Tories are conducting a #classwar.
The numbers declaring themselves #LongTermSick & unable to work continues to rise. This is likely to be a combination of #longcovid, work-related stress and other conditions.
The solution is not just trying to force these people back to work by cutting working age benefits, but to try & understand what is actually happening in the #workforce... as so often the #Tories reach for the stick without actually appreciating what is actually happening to #workers!
No-one will be surprised that #JeremyHunt is saying he might cut the #welfare budget to pay for #taxcuts... but the Q. must be whose benefits are going to be cut?
#RishiSunak is going to going into bat for the #pensioners.... but Hunt already has his eyes on the #longtermsick who he thinks need to be 'encouraged' back to work... so I'm guessing (yet) more constraints on unemployment benefits (more conditionality, longer delay after job loss)...
