Le 1ᵉʳ décembre 1944, des dizaines de soldats africains appelés « tirailleurs » sont exécutés par l’armée française dans le camp de Thiaroye, au Sénégal.
Ces soldats avaient été fait prisonniers durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale par les Allemands dans des camps de travaux forcés en France.
Après la guerre, de retour en Afrique, ils avaient alors réclamé le paiement de leurs arriérés de solde et refusé de quitter le camp. La version officielle affirmera qu'il s'agissait d'une répression face à une mutinerie.
Pour l'historienne, Armelle #Mabon, qui a eu accès aux archives, il s'agit d'un « crime de masse prémédité ».
Not a lot of people know that the custard cream biscuit was originally called the Maybon to link it with its sister biscuit, the Bourbon. The bourbon was named after the ancient Frankish spring equinox festival & the Maybon was named after the ancient Celtic autumn equinox. This was an early example of twinning to promote cultural harmony. Both of these festivals involved copious amounts of baked goods & a herbal infusion mixed with milk.
(Not a lot of people know that because it’s not true — but it’s a lot more fun than claiming that Mabon, the name of a Welsh deity who has nothing to do with Autumn Equinox, has always been the name of the festival, when the two were first associated in 1974 by Aidan Kelly.)

I know what should be blooming, singing, or visiting any time, but I revel in the surprises. Over the summer, a frog moved into the front gardens. What a sweet marker of the returning health of this tiny bit of land! I adore hearing his frog songs at night, mixed in with the sounds of the night chorus.
It's a bit front heavy, but I think it looks nifty. It was pretty easy to make with some flax string. It has a rainbow ribbon in the back to tie it up tightly🏳️🌈
