Dec 22, 1989: On this date, Irish novelist and playwright Samuel Beckett died. Beckett was a courier for the French Resistance in WW2, though after the war he modestly understated his contributions, saying he only did "boy scout stuff.”

He was awarded the 1969 Nobel Prize in Literature.

Hear me out, someone should message and get them to make a version of .

It’s a solo worker placement game where you play as the French resistance (the Maquis) and complete thematic sabotage missions vs Nazis. It’s a puzzle of collecting resources/intel, performing sabotage, and getting fighters home safely.

Reskin the map with the demilitarised zone, and fight against the Cardassians and Starfleet. Replace the workers with small wooden ships.

I got this close to winning today’s campaign. THIS close 😭

I poisoned all the occupiers’ dogs, and killed two of their paramilitary droogs.

I just needed to kill two more but they called in the army and their soldiers rounded all the resistance up and did God-knows-what to them.

See that red mofo soldier there at Pont Leveque? He was the last one out on patrol, and he blocked the only escape route left for my heroes.

Commémoration 19 octobre 1943.

FoucPerotin, (edited )

In one cruel move, and arresting just one resistance worker at Pont Leveque, this damn Milice agent ended my board game by cutting off all my workers, meaning they all got rounded up and “disappeared.”

Serves me right for having them all on the west side of the river, but still.

I can imagine the mofo Milice agent smoking a cigarette while drinking our French wine, laughing while he tells everyone in the bar about how stupid the resistance were this evening.

Won my first non-tutorial game of today!

It was tense: two of my resistance were arrested, we had to shoot a member of the Milice, and my mole that infiltrated the Milice was this close to being arrested also.

Great little game, I love how easy it is to setup and play a whole game in 20 minutes or so.

I won my first solo play of , a game I’d forgotten my partner bought and I never got round to trying. This was the first easy pair of missions and a straightforward victory, though I did get three of my five resistance workers arrested.

The rulebook could have been better. There’s a rather bewildering quantity of tokens most of which you don’t need to start with. I think I like it though and am looking forward to another game!
