This weeks topic is like eating Vanillekipferl (Vanilla Crescents) in August.. and I'm all for it!? Even if the songs have sort of a winter-y or cold theme, I'm going mostly for mood with this one.
Ok, I am going to make a start on #JukeboxFridayNight / #JukeboxSometimeOrOther as I have a bit of time before I need to start today's travels. The theme is #MidwinterTunes, which makes sense given the starting place of this hashtag.
My first choice is a folk song that talks about social conditions that sound very similar to what we have today.
The Winter Time Is Coming / Old Changing Way - Bob Davenport
Embarrassingly this was the song I immediately thought of, a Danish Christmas comedy pop song, Guld Jul, the title is a pun on God Jul, Merry Xmas. The lyrics are perfectly ridiculous and the video chefs kiss
A bit of a pep talk for those of us who don't love Winter
"The days that seem,
The most dreary,
Are perfect for being creative and cosy,
As long as we sing,
Until the Spring,
This Winter can be,
A most magical thing"
I still maintain Curve were the less famous precursor to Garbage, in that they threw everything but the kitchen-sink into their indie-dance sonic overload...I'm a sucker for feedback and guitar-spangle...
Adding a little colour to proceedings... Bollywood is very definitely not my bag but I can appreciate that when the monsoon rains get biblical, it can be something to celebrate...
It's not about winter (it probably rains here more in summer, really).
And, really, I'm sharing this because it is, ahem, (IMHO) hot. So, very, very hot (fans self). Yep. This performance can warm me on a winter's night, in the absence of whisky.
I was thinking I'd save this one for a Spring themed #JukeboxFridayNight, but I've seen a couple of others wanting to think of days warming already. We can all file this one for later …
