I'm confused, I thought @mozilla stopped development on #MozillaSocial and instead the devs started a fork called #Firefly. Why are there now new builds of MozillaSocial?
The two main microblogging families are Mastodon and Misskey (with all their respective forks). If you really prefer the former you should try the MozillaSocial instance. The backend is a fork of Mastodon and the frontend is a fork of Elk.
The @social job listings for backend engineers want people experienced with JavaScript and Rust. Ruby/Rails (Mastodon’s backend stack) is not mentioned.
It already uses Elk for its frontend instead of Mastodon. I wonder if they intend to create a new compatible backend too. I would welcome another high quality ActivityPub implementation, especially in programming languages I prefer.
