Hey, I'm Tom. I love technology and all things open source.

I have a bunch of :raspberrypi:'s running my home lab, keeping my personal life off the internet. Still a way to go before I'm completely offline, a major issue being Google Home.

I run :debian: with :xfce: and my gaming computer does too! I also have a Fairphone4 which runs :lineageos2: with MindTheGapps.

I've moved on from my @GurgleApps #WordClock to an idea for using my #ESP32C3 with 5x5 matrix. Green pixels indicate minute hand, red pixels indicate hours hand
Programmed using @microblocks

Time is 25 past 3 xxxxx xxxxx xxgrr xxxgx xxxxg r=red g=green x=off
Time is 15 mins to 6 xxxxx xxxxx gggxx xxrxx xxrxx r=red g=green x=off
Code that updates the NeoPixels

@cymplecy @GurgleApps @microblocks That's quite a genius way to display time... Which pixels do you skip?

@eris2cats It's in Settings -> Window Manager -> Keyboard

@eris2cats Seems to work fine for me in a Debian install. Don't unmute this.

Today is the day. I’m having a minor procedure on my foot in a couple of hours.

I’ll be fine, probably hopping around for a few days. The biggest consequence: I can’t wear shoes or socks for 2 weeks while I heal up.

I’m seriously not looking forward to having a cold foot for that long.

Flip side? My sock laundry will be cut by 50%!

@linux_mclinuxface I have minor butt surgery in a few weeks. Let me know how recovery is!

Oops, looks like I left a malware test file in one of my backups! lol. Luckily, it's not dangerous. Also, funny that it's in micro's buffer.

Wow, I'm impressed with myself, replace the keyboard on my Inspiron 5301. This involved taking everything out from inside the system and disconnecting the screen. I only broke one flex cable plug.

What I remembered in doing this is how much I hate flex cables and wireless antennae connectors.

Just got to clean it up now and then I can finally sell it! Hopefully the BIOS is still holding the Windows 11 key, or it's going out as a Linux laptop.

Everything worked first time, with no complications.... Is this a bad omen?

tripplehelix,

Turns out speakers aren't working, even though windows found and installed drivers for them? Need to find where it plugs in and make sure it's secure. Hoping it's not the connector that broke!

I try to make light of it as much as I can, but I have to say: three decades of masking without knowing I was autistic absolutely destroyed my connection to my body, and my body itself. There’s only so long you can brute-force yourself to be something you aren’t. It will break you.

I think I prefer Web to CLI, you can hard code numbers into it and not worry. If the browser is too small, it just overflows. In a terminal, everything screws up.

small_window = twitch_title_width_max/2 #Used elsewhere to prevent mess

if curses.COLS < twitch_title_width_max/3 or curses.LINES < 10:
print(f"\033[91mTerminal window is too small, twinge needs {math.ceil(twitch_title_width_max/3)} x 10 characters minimum.")
 sys.exit(1)

Got the cat's spleen sample test results today from the nodules they found on her spleen last week.

They are cancerous.

Was kind of obvious that they would be, or at least something else would be, given the rising protein levels in her blood.

Not much I think can really be done. She's 16 later this year and I don't really think it's good to put her on chemo at her age. Plus she has stage 2 CKD and arthritis.

I was going to praise onestream for using open source tooling for their website. However, I found this... Eurgh, that's some messy HTML. At least it looks simple if you want to update branding, but that could have been done with :root. Seems similar to tailwind css.

Been out my hobby room today, so many tools and so many . I have loads I need to sell and two boxes full still to do!

I also have a pretty new laptop I need to replace the keyboard and touchpad on then sell, hopefully get round to that this week, so many screws!!

Then have my old mouse I'd like to take apart fully so I have some parts if something in my new one dies.

Finally, a coffee shop I've been working on for at least a year now!

Made some major improvements to my following list and stream launcher, Twinge!

Should now work in smaller terminal windows and exits cleanly if crtl+c is used. I have also changed the colours to make what’s going on easier to see.

... Every so often I remember that I made some games for years ago... And then I try and play them and... I suck at them. But some super awesome people made online emulators, so you can try them too! (Although I'm gonna say that they're way harder with touchscreen controls than the original hardware.

First up is 'Not Just a Hatrack' which was just me messing around with how platformers work. You gotta believe me, it feels tighter with clicky buttons. 🎩
