Anyone out there using ChatGPT to generate content ideas, monsters, magic items, etc., or is that generally considered verboten? I've been playing around with it and actually quite like some of the stuff I get out of it... what do you folks think? Useful tool, or instrument of the enemy?

Would love to hear your feedback on this topic.

Happy March First! I finally added a couple of images (along with a few other updates) to my free (PWYW if you’d like) supplement, “Wilderness Adventuring Simplified,” on itch.

One thing I absolutely love about our open table is that much of the roleplay stuff happens in the chat, post- and inbetween session (the actual game sessions are tight). So while I’m having lunch at work, other players dedicate objects to a made-up deity of „elfland“ or give me a +1 dagger as a gift ❤️
Your work day gets a little brighter with an osr frosting!

Finally done. Art for the cover of the compilation book I was thinking of making for my old webcomic fantasy Lovarian Adventures from 2001-2006.

Low res version of this webcomic is surprisingly still available online if you’re curious. https://www.theduckwebcomics.com/Lovarian_Adventures/

So, a little bummed... it appears that The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons is only available for pre-order in the US.

I can't find any outlet in Canada taking pre-orders, and with my luck, the print run will be completely gone before I ever get a chance to buy it.

Anyone know if this gem is available in Canada anywhere?

Yesterday, I ran . (for B/X / ). It was fun and we could welcome a new player at our open table 👏
Over the last years, I dm‘d the Black Wyrm a few times. I value, how accessible the module is, and how it relates to classic fairytales and has a little bit of everything: a dungeon, a dragon, you name it. It is light hearted and whimsical in a way, but also features a gloomy undercurrent. Vibe-wise it reminds me of „The Hobbit“

Yesterday, I ran the first session of for our open table. For someone like me, who is used to run style modules (bullet points 😍) navigating through the tome of Arden Vul is a somewhat „different“ experience. The prose is super dense and everything is soaked in lore („and this is where Archontean nobleman had is breakfast 251 years ago…“), but I think it‘s manageable and the bits and pieces of the module seem to fit well together at the table, promising high adventure

I wrote a small plus affair for - but really any kind of old fashioned ,"The Slumber Cave of the Moss Giant", wherein a blue light will slowly turn you to moss, nasty shrink-gnomes and other poisonous critters roam, a potted plant princess awaits rescue, and giant turtles dream of steamier times. Teens go there to make out! Think meets . Not a professional product, but usable and fun. http://lazermeduza.de/uncategorized/the-slumber-cave-of-the-moss-giant/

Interesting question posed on reddit osr. BECMI or B/X?

https://old.reddit.com/r/osr/comments/1az60a8/becmi_or_bx/

They are very nearly the same game up to level 15. But BECMI had 6 to 9 years where TSR was still publishing material for the game. There are a lot of rule variations published for BECMI in the Gazetteer supplements.

My answer is still probably neither though. There are some things in AD&D, 3E, 4E that I like to incorporate into the game.

Still working on my randomly generated megadungeon for . One of the dungeon features that I rolled up is an altar that changes your sex. On the one hand, stuff like this is something that came up in the old school days, but on the other hand, I understand that it can be problematic. My thought is 1) telegraph as much as possible what's going to happen, so it doesn't become a "prank" and 2) make sure that it's reversible, so nobody feels stuck in a sex/gender they don't want.

Question for fans and fans of in general:

What AD&D 2E and older products have a good library of "overland" map symbols for cities and towns of various sizes, as well as other locations (such as ruins, caves, etc.).

I am looking for inspiration. Other products are also okay, but I am looking for something of an "Old School" / vibe (though explicitly not hexcrawls).
