Hey friends on the #Fediverse!
It's been 6 years since our last, beloved PyCon Zimbabwe took place. #pyconzim brought us together. It was a time for connecting, sharing, & learning. Now, after years of silence, it's coming back!
We're a community-driven event, & like before we need your help to make it a success. We're calling on all of you to join us in this endeavor. Whether you can offer your time, resources, or just a share on your networks, every bit counts! #python#django#foss
@jonafato In 2016, I took a 30-hour bus ride to attend Pycon Namibia. I gave my first-ever conference talk at that summit, which led to several successive conference talks at PyConZa 2016, DjangoConEU in Florence 2017, Pycon Namibia 2017, and PyconZa 2017.
@jonafato Aside from the many amazing people I met at these conferences, a significant highlight is how I discovered capabilities I didn't know I had, thanks to the encouragement of my friends in the #djangocommunity. I attended Pycon Namibia in 2016 out of my love for #python, and years later, I was awarded a community service award for volunteering work I did in Zimbabwe.
Well done to the social managers of DjangoCon Africa for the total coverage of the conference here on the Fediverse. 👏
Sharing images and information live during a conference is a demanding job and I know it well. 😅
For those like me who were unable to participate in this first DjangoCon Africa in person, it is wonderful to be able to follow everything that happens in Zanzibar. 🌍
I post a lot about https://www.conferencechats.org here. It's a community I care deeply about, and I'm happy to see it continue to grow. It's still (and increasingly) Python-heavy. If you or someone you know is a conference organizer, especially outside of the Python community or tech industry as a whole, please consider joining. (I love my Python community friends, but we can certainly all benefit from cross-community work and discussion.)
Only 30 days left until DjangoCon Africa! I am beyond excited about this event and can hardly wait for it to begin. Tickets are still on sale. Why am I so enthusiastic? Follow this link to find out why 👉 👉 https://hbutau.github.io/djangocon-africa.html. #djcafrica#django
📣CALL FOR DONATIONS📣
Help us bring more voices to DjangoCon Africa! We need assistance with travel and accommodation for many attendees, including speakers, who will not otherwise be able to attend.
Thanks to those who have donated so far, we've managed to provide travel assistance to some speakers. But we need your help to make sure everyone can be a part of this inclusive and diverse event.

[OC] Floria, the Terror of The Sea. She is from my webcomic called Working Around. She is often referred to as "The most fearsome pirate this world had ever seen" although nobody ever dares to check whether it's true or not. She is the wife of Captain Dereck Gigerbeard (It's DereCk so that he won't be confused with non-captain Dereks, duh 😆 ) and together they sail across the sea engaging in illegal activities of sorts.
I should probably draw the rest of the comic crew sometimes. Most of them never got an actual illustration other than their comic appearance and it's a shame.
What is a good hashtag to follow to hear about conversations from people who - like me - are sick of JavaScript frameworks, complexity merchants, and general praise for the spread of JS everywhere?
Not looking for vitriol, but rather critique on said topics and connection to the people who are fighting the nonsense
