While frantically preparing for my vacation after just coming back from PyCon (don’t ask), I’ve pushed out https://github.com/hynek/build-and-inspect-python-package/releases/tag/v2.6.0 that adds support for the new ubuntu-24.04 builders and the name of the uploaded artifact as a new output. #Python

They say you should not meet your heroes, but I met @hynek at and it was great. I regret not telling him how much I enjoy his YouTube videos.

You may not have the spoons to attend an event.

You may not realise there's something you can do right now to help your community be more accessible to others.

You may want to spread word of a cool event to your followers. Which is awesome.

I'm always going to check out what you're interested in, mutuals.

Although I'd like a small favour if you can. Please can you check if they have a public health policy?

If they don't could you ask them? Please?

Because I want to boost.

@onepict #pyconus had a masking requirement this year. It was a drag, some people stayed home. 2700 people from all over the world in small rooms for four days. So far, no one got sick. Yay #PyConUS2024

First thoughts coming back from : Do you know anyone who works hard but is unrecognized in your community? Nominate them for stuff at the @thepsf ! Don't know what or how? I've written a README here:

@iqbalabd Thanks for the write-up, let's get nominating! There's also @Thepsf's highest award, the Distinguished Service Award: https://www.python.org/community/awards/psf-distinguished-awards/

Well, another #PyConUS is done (for me - #Sprints continue for another couple of days!)

It was excellent catching up with old friends and meeting tons of new ones. Pittsburgh was definitely a super cool vibe, 2025 should be fun too.

I'm looking forward to recharging my depleted physical batteries, so I can jump into all the important work we have ahead of us to continue to support this amazing community.

See you online somewhere!!

Weird morning so far.

  • Shot wide awake at 5:22 am for no discernable reason (thanks body/brain)
  • Pointlessly tried to go back to sleep.
  • Gave up and got up to clear away the work inbox
  • Got a message from a former student of mine I haven't heard from in several years

I think this will need to be remedied with some and sprints today.

Example of using Python to save PDF pages as images.

import pymupdf
import requests

doc = pymupdf.Document(stream=requests.get(
 '<https://pycon-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/2024/media/>'
 'documents/DLCC-Floorplan-Marked_up_PyCon_US_2024.pdf').content)

for (pageNumber, page) in enumerate(doc.pages()):
 pixmap = page.get_pixmap(dpi=300)
 pixmap.save(f'page-{pageNumber + 1}.png')

This is the like version, to fit within Mastodon message length limits.
