Lookng forward to pick up my "new" #synthesizer next week: https://www.vintagesynth.com/yamaha/sy77
🎹
It will be able to do all that my trusty old #DX7 II-D could do, and so much more. I don't care too much for the #ROMpler and workstation parts (except that it may give me a usable piano sound), but using different waveforms or even samples in FM synthesis will be exciting and something even many modern synths that cost ten times as much can't do. And the #SY77 is so underrated that it's currently cheaper than its rack variant or even an original DX7, while retaining its predecessor's superior keybed with #aftertouch.
⚠️Important info about the lead synth in Europe - The final countdown 🎹
The sound of the keyboard riff used in the recording was achieved by using a Yamaha TX-816 rack unit and a Roland JX-8P synthesizer, as described by Michaeli: "I made a brassy sound from the JX-8P and used a factory sound from the Yamaha, and just layered them together."
Back in the 90s, I managed a live #electronic#ambient band in #Montreal called Fuzzy Logic. Grimm, one keyboard player, had an SY99. I always liked the sounds coming out of it. Eventually found its smaller sibling, the #sy77. It didn't disappoint. Floppy drive working. Earlier this year, I ran into this website still selling new patch disks and ordered some. #synth#retro#floppy#yamaha
