How to start a fight with old-school nerds everwhere.

Grr! I'm coming to your house! By the way, where do you live? :)

There will be another new popular winner in the editor wars at some point. - my favorite - won't be that winner, or the next winner after that. But Emacs will be around, and it will continue to be very, very good. All you , users you are all still my brothers and sisters in software development. Though I have to say I am still giving the hairy eyeball to you Vim folks :)

I've been messing with VS Code for a few days now (despite being an MS hater), and it seems quite good; "all" of my friends use it, and SublimeText is sort of feeling abandoned these days.

One thing that's bugging me, and I can't figure out how to fix it, is that every time the window loses focus, something is reformatting my text. Type "something " with a space, switch to check info, switch back and the space is gone. 🤷

Im on week 2 of working with and while I do like it alot more than vim, it still feels painful to work on my PHP project. All the modes, navigating files, lack of a tree.

It makes the hard things easy, and the easy things hard.

I do want to get away from but might try out instead.

Can someone explain why opening a package-type file in BBEdit shows its structure and underlying files, but Sublime Text just shows me hex data? I don’t understand the package file format super well

mjgardner,
@mjgardner@social.sdf.org avatar

@ehler packages, or bundles if they contain executables, are directories that the Finder displays as a single file: https://developer.apple.com/library/archive/documentation/CoreFoundation/Conceptual/CFBundles/AboutBundles/AboutBundles.html

is doing the right thing. I don’t know what thinks it’s doing.

Unless you’re looking at what Sublime Text calls “packages,” which are just ZIP archive files: https://www.sublimetext.com/docs/packages.html

@bbedit opens ZIP files because it’s just that good: https://www.barebones.com/products/bbedit/featuresfile.html

Are any developers here using these days? I thought it was an old defunct Mac editor. But its still a thing, and works on . And it feels fast and smooth.

I'm shocked I'm just now finding this.

i'm a total #FOSS fraud.. ..i can't stop using #SublimeText.. ..no other editor jives with my screwy brain like ST.. ..i need multiple cursors and i want to use my mouse.. ..start casting stones and unfollow/block as wanted/needed.. ..i totally understand

Looks like there's a (potentially ancient) GDscript plugin for Sublime Text: https://github.com/beefsack/GDScript-sublime

I wonder if any of the forks are more up-to-date?

dianshuo, to random

@vertigo random thing. Before VSCode came along I used to use Sublime. It was a little rougher around the edges in some areas of the experience but it was practically the same. Including the command palette keybindings. Only difference was that it wasn’t built on electron and was a tiny (relative) C++ app from memory. Maybe need to go back to that…

just saw a youtube tutorial refer to sublime text as a free editor 🙄

it is not free nor is it open source. is fully paid software that allows you to evaluate it. costs $99 to purchase access to releases for three years, then you have to do it again. it's also aging super hard. i wouldn't recommend it to new developers. / has so many more features and is actually free.
