Spent a peaceful two-plus hours in the patio sun after the lawn dude left everything pristine. (I need to train the squirrels to leave peanut shells in a tiny Dumpster™️.)
Planning on painting the rest of the day with no guilt for chores undone.
I recorded the neighborhood mockingbird’s fancy trill but can’t figure out how to post it, so here’s another “Perfume Magic” rose instead.
Awoke to “Happy Birthday” texts & calls from family. So very grateful for twin sons, their loving wives & amazing children - & my 94 y/o sister who still thinks of me as a toddler. 🤣
Grateful too for this quiet, peaceful life I’m so privileged to lead, my comfy casita, & my garden with blooms, birds & critters.
Splurged & bought my very fave -halibut- for dinner!
Bonus: Two mallards zoomed on a low pass through my yard yesterday like Blue Angels in their F/A-18s.
Saturday’s homemade wonton soup was fabulous - (better than our “best in area” Chinese restaurant’s) - and fun to make. (ProTip…a tablespoon of soy sauce in chicken broth works flavor magic.)
Korean veggie pancakes satisfied my curiosity more than my tastebuds.
Final day of dreary weather - forecast is for blueish skies & rising temps. Roses survived the rain without turning to mush.
Finished and filed my taxes, and will be getting a refund! 💰
Found another teeny tiny seedling sprouting in my flower garden. 🌱
Surprised and delighted to discover that my day lily from last year seems to have survived the winter (with no help from me) and appears to be coming back to life! ☀️
Times have been shit lately, but I feel good about a few things today, so it's time for Three Good Things.
Husband's cancer surgery is one week out, and it cannot get here quickly enough. Feels like we've been waiting forever, and finally we're getting close to taking care of it.
Got the yard work done before the rain tomorrow.
The giant hobo spider in my garage has been banished. From life.
Sat in the patio sun & watched the birds for a couple of hours - I find them endlessly entertaining. All of my roses are budding & will bloom by my birthday.
Long phone conversation with a dear friend recovering from surgery.
Ordered groceries, including everything to make the savory Korean veggie pancakes that I’ve wanted for weeks.
Unexpected nap for a few minutes in the sun until a scrub jay terrorized some very noisy sparrows.
Hardboiled egg & a jumbo kosher hot dog for lunch.
We’re supposed to prevent hybrid tea rose rootstock from sprouting, but I just can’t inhibit this one that produces “Double Delight.” It climbs fences & trees, has a fabulous fragrance and blooms like crazy.
Caught up with a couple of days’ posts in this thread - always uplifting - thank you to all who post.
We had quite the storm with hail, lightning, thunder, and heavy rain that battered emerging roses. Still lots of buds ready to pop when they plug the sun back in.
Planning to bribe my grandson into a trip to the nursery - I need petunias to brighten up a rock garden.
Accepted my offer for #GradSchool with Charlotte, Master of Arts in Counseling. Enrolled into two courses, deciding on the third.
Watched Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Great film, special shout out to little baby Suko who stole every scene, especially when Kong used him as a weapon.
Back on the peloton. I always have to take a few days off when things get busy and mind gets too crowded but I’m that first ride always feels amazing.
Two peace-filled hours on my patio in the sun and gentle breezes.
One resident hummingbird alerted me (with high-flying shenanigans & insistent clicks) that its feeder needed filling. Bossy little thing!
Fell down the Instagram hole today & discovered a way to propagate an (unpatented) rose from a cutting: dip the stem in honey, place it in a hole in a potato, remove rose bloom & other growths, plant the potato in a container, et voilà!
Nice quiet Easter with a surprise visit from my grandson - he always makes me laugh.
Bright sun in a cloudless sky today (but a bit too chilly to patio sit).
Ordered a card for NC son & DIL - (Republicans) - with Trump on the front and “his actual voice” wishing them happy wedding anniversary. Should be good for a 😂😂.
🐉 I played Dungeons & Dragons with my buddies yesterday and it was a hoot.
😋 Half-price Easter candy. My wife picked up a jelly bean multi-pack. Sharable fun with the D&D group. I love picking a random bean and trying to guess the flavor! Also, I would not complain if I always "accidentally" picked buttered popcorn or butterscotch beans.
Intermittent sunshine with blue sky & spectacular clouds. I think I must spend half my waking hours staring out the windows.
Summoned the courage to politely decline an invitation for Easter dinner, which response was gracefully received.
One of my email accounts burped and served up mail from 2009-2023. I’m not big on nostalgia, but notes from actual ghosts were fun & poignant to re-read.
The last shipment of new patio cushions arrived (too bad it’s raining today).
Great photos & videos from the NC branch of the family currently vacationing in Puerto Rico. No rain in the rain forest.
Conquered the impulse to have just eggs & Peeps 🐥delivered from the grocery store (forgot to get them last time). Frugal deceased husband has stopped spinning.
