I'm not sure if they had technically stepped past the curb, standing on the yellow ramp deferring to cars as so many people do, but it drives me nuts when people do this and I'm on a bike, like why are you standing there quit being weird, just walk. Our infrastructure is so stupid, and that you have to dare to stand halfway out in a 60ft street to activate the crosswalk law.

😞 in yet another edition of Cars Ruin Portland, the drunk mom who needed to take her kids somewhere last night and killed her 4yo while fleeing a hit-n-run fender bender with the driver following her and wtf hit a Tesla? Bad choices by mom but where were her other transportation options? Ted will blame her drinking and dust his hands of it like "yeah streets are just deadly if you're not sober". Infrastructure. Dammit.

I've long said that 's problem is that we let the cars decide how we build & maintain our transportation network. If everything is decided by manual + procedures with no single person being held accountable for these choices, the bureau runs itself primarily by corruption / whatever forces are incentivized to maintain the status-quo. The smart move as commissioner is to pull the handbrake, but who can see that in the 1st year

ICYMI, the commission seats are appointed by the mayor, with always being assigned either to his political rival, or someone planning to retire anyway. We voted to change this but a city manager and new bureau director are basically going to continue the status-quo unless the vast majority of council keep them under a lens 🧐 and demand specific changes ()

Watch 's mayor require someone to explain to him how crosswalk daylighting is , then the commissioner Mapps says stuff and commits to nothing. I hope they at least send some cones to that corner where a kid was hit with a car yesterday. 😞 embrace yet another day of status quo .

Does nobody in PBOT leadership see the money we're dumping into maintaining asphalt? The transportation leaders in a city surrounded by suburbs need to default to an anti-car attitude in the same way that you would expect retail employees to not sell merchandise below cost. This is probably true for suburbs and small towns too, but Portland invites the burden of car traffic into itself from all sides.

Everybody clap for this driver who won himself a moment to come to a complete stop behind a line of cars by burning extra fuel and terrorizing families on bikes with a 35mph close pass (in a 25mph zone, of course.) Can we get the to look into why the bike lane ends but keep going?

Officials had hoped that an increased police presence would be the missing ingredient to reduce fatal crashes." wtf who thought cops were going to help our #infrastructure design problems that we never adopted REAL policy requiring #trafficEngineers to fix?

@urbangr well there's definitely not anyone tied to the other track and the actual trolleys we do have aren't killing 60-some people yearly in Portland.
