For a man who's so uniquely bad at his own job, Andrew Bailey's very confident about something he knows nothing about.
Of course, he's taming the horses of his own crowd, to make sure they don't get scared about investing.
It's nothing to do with jobs for us.
Just for the boys.

More enshitification. DropBox adds to the OpenAI data vacuum all your files unless you opt out. Having the pipe is one thing. Having it be opt out and not even telling users about it makes me furious.
Dropbox spooks users by sending data to OpenAI for AI search features

I just thought of a term for Silicon Valley VC and techbro culture's insistence on "move fast and break things" even at scale even when it puts millions of people or even society at risk because that's all worth it if they can be the next unicorn company and/or Jobs/Musk/etc billionaire demigod: Silicon Valley Sociopathy

Guess which garage door opener vendor I'll never buy from again? Be careful they own like a dozen different labels. Who would of thought enshitification could reach all the way down to garage door openers...sigh...anyway there are workaround boards people can use if you are stuck with them like we are... arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/1…

Great write-up by Ed Zitron summarizing the rot of Silicon Valley Billionaire Tech Bro culture and the artifacts we are living with to this day open.substack.com/pub/ez/p/sil…

I finally got to this @changelog episode in my podcast backlog with @pluralistic talking about his and book "Chokepoint Capitalism". As cynical my opinions are on the current state of our capitalist system before listening to it it's now even lower. I've had the book in my "to read" list for some time because I have wanted to read it but I make even less progress with that backlog than my podcast one. A worthy listening but it will get your blood pressure up. changelog.com/podcast/535

What if this is just the late stage capitalist vulture capitalists just eating themselves. Consumers hate it and will seek places that don't have such shitty signal to noise ratio. Those could be places like the fediverse that aren't incentivized in the same way. It's not a question of ludditism. It's the equivalent of mid-20th century food product vomit that tried to convince us to eat everything with these shitty "time saving" products when we wanted real food. It didn't sink big agribusiness, unfortunately, but they had to get back to the basics. It'd be a wonderful thing in this case it sinks them with their shitty products too.
AI is killing the old web, and the new web struggles to be born

Techbro disruptor CEO says all the experts, regulations on products like theirs, etc. is just about stopping progress and they know all and will get it done better, faster, and cheaper. The end result is putting people's lives at risk for no good reason. Stop worshipping these motherfuckers. Stop taking what they say as gospel truth. Relegate them to the same social status of carnival barkers selling you admission to a flea circus. At least with the flea circus hawker you were only out the equivalent money of buying a cup of coffee at a restaurant. I feel very sorry for the people that weren't told the details of how intentionally hacked together this vehicle was before putting their lives in this delusional CEO's hands.
