Artists at Risk (AR) extends its heartfelt gratitude to all contributions to the ARTISTS AT RISK PAVILION—Artists. Risks. Humans. Rights. held with the support of UNESCO on the occasion of the 60th International Art Exhibition: La Biennale di Venezia.
Artists at risk are invited to apply by 20 May 2024 to the State of the ART(ist) Open Call.
Artists at Risk (AR)’s Co-Directors Ivor Stodolsky @ivor and Marita Muukkonen were on the jury in 2023 & are part of the jury again this year.
State of the ART(ist) is a collaborative project between the Austrian Federal Ministry of European and International Affairs & Ars Electronica @arselectronica.
We can hardly contain our joy and excitement that Delaine Le Bas, our great friend and long-time partner of AR/PM in multiple initiatives, has been nominated for the prestigious Turner Prize!
Delaine Le Bas’ iconic ‘Romani Embassy’ is part of the AR Pavilion at UNESCO Venice’s Palazzo Zorzi.
Also present at the ARTISTS AT RISK PAVILION in Venice was renowned Iranian #filmmaker in exile Mahmoud Ghaffari. Ghaffari is an AR-Resident in Barcelona.
On 24 April his film ‘The Apple Day’ will premiere at CCCB. Its screenwriter Mahnaz Jarchi is also an AR-Resident.
The #film portrays the everyday life of a family in a suburb of Tehran, offering a sensitive yet critical look at the social & political reality in #Iran.

"Shades of Ukraine", the first solo exhibition by Ukrainian artist and Artists at Risk (AR) Resident, Yelyzaveta Marynina opened on 21 March 2024 at Myymälä2 in Helsinki, Finland. The exhibition will run till 31 March.
Yelyzaveta Marynina is an Artists at Risk (AR)-Resident at Tapiola Guest Studio managed by Suomen Taiteilijaseuran Ateljeesäätiö.
Join us at 7pm on 10 April 2024 for the opening of "The Mourning of Nature and Humanity", a group #exhibition curated by Artists at Risk (AR) alumnus, Barış Seyitvan from Kurdistan at Hinterland in #Austria.
Barış Seyitvan is an #artist and #curator who was forced to leave #Kurdistan to escape the long arm of the Turkish government. He now lives in exile in Berlin and works to provide platforms for critical Kurdish art.
Join us at 6pm on 21 March for the opening of "Shades of Ukraine", the first solo exhibition by Ukrainian #artist and Artists at Risk (AR) Resident, Yelyzaveta Marynina at Myymälä2 in #Helsinki, #Finland.
The exhibition comprises a series of digital collage prints which intends to be a loving testament to the grit and bravery of the Ukrainian people under the heartbreaking devastation caused by the Russian aggressor.

ArtVeda is an NGO working for the promotion of cultural life in Tunisia and for a dialogue beyond borders. Part of “Artists at Risk (AR) – A European Network of Safe Havens (AR-ENSH)” which is supported by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, ArtVeda has hosted several residencies for artists at risk from the MENA region.
The tremendous support Artists at Risk (AR) received in 2022-2023 has been truly heartening. As we step into 2024, we look forward to seeing continued solidarity for artists at risk globally!

StoneZone is an artspace based in Hällevadsholm, Sweden with a focus on sculpture. A member of SWAN - Swedish Artist Residency Network, it has cooperated with Artists at Risk (AR) to host residencies for international artists at risk.
The outpouring of support Artists at Risk (AR) received in 2022-2023 was overwhelming. As we usher in 2024, we hope to see the same solidarity for artists at risk around the world!

Artists at Risk (AR)-Ostriv is an artistic residency for internally displaced Ukrainian artists who had to flee from their permanent or temporary places of residence previously situated in the regions of Ukraine that suffered from Russian aggression.
In early December, the Artists at Risk Finland Network (AR-Finland) had its annual gathering over the festive season. Residents and hosts, friends and colleagues, old and new – got together in #Helsinki to discuss the events in 2023 and plan ahead for 2024.
In #Finland this year, we successfully relocated 39 principal Ukrainian applicants and 20 artists at risk from other countries. We’d like to extend our warmest thanks to the AR-residency hosts in Finland.
