🤔 "The International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) has identified a lack of consensus among public health officials regarding whether short wavelength light (SWL) from artificial sources disrupts circadian rhythm, and if so, whether SWL-disrupted circadian rhythm is associated with adverse health outcomes."

❓❓❓

Sending this question into the mastodon void:

Has anyone ever used a sun lamp/light therapy lamp at home? And if so, did you find it helpful to your sleep quality/circadian rhythm?

"With the extended use of indoor/outdoor light, smartphones, television, computers, and social jetlag people are exposed to excessive artificial light at night increasing their photoperiod. ... Long photoperiod is an established disrupter of the and can induce a range of chronic conditions including adiposity, altered hormonal signaling and metabolism, premature and poor psychological health."

Sleep experts want to get rid of daylight saving time

"Reality check: Daylight savings doesn't "save" any daylight in the spring and summer, but instead pushes sunrises and sunsets to an hour later, and further away from our natural circadian rhythms, says Johnson, a co-chair of the nonprofit Coalition for Permanent Standard Time, which is supported by a number of sleep medicine and research organizations."

"This paper discusses ... some policy insights for reducing circadian disruption include regulating shift work, updating public lighting, and incentivizing circadian-based technologies."

Ugh. Daytime insomnia. It is the worst. Damn normal trying to reassert itself. Fuck off with that.

A 3-year-old short video, but a good one from SciShow -- a
consumer-oriented YouTube science show which is generally well-done.

Goes into:
-- ADHD and sleep disorders overlaps
-- Chicken and the egg problem -- which comes first
-- Altered Circadian Rhythm & ADHD correlation
-- Sleep Onset Insomnia: Is treating it a way to improve ADHD symptoms
(pretty much YES, although more research would be good)

Lots of research, although mostly children's studies. Should many
people with ADHD be taking melatonin?
