This is one of a series, each unique, of my hand made cyanotypes on watercolour paper (14" x 11") with an image of a cloud-filled sky overprinted with my linocut print of several kites, and wind-socks each collaged with beautiful Japanese washi papers.
The carp-shaped Koinobori wind socks (also known as satsuki-nobori) are flown in Japan to celebrate Tango no sekku, or Children's Day each May 5.
One #cyanotype from Mazatlán that did turn out: I would love an expert human to tell me what this Gulf of California / Pacific beach vine is, because with all my research skills Google and the Seek app are being useless.
My wife developed itchiness near the special areas and so have I in slightly different areas. I think it's because we've been bathing in #hardwater all this time. Has anyone in the #pnw dealt with this that can recommend a softener or filter? I noticed that our filter gives ph7.5.
For #PrinterSolstice prompt primary colours I combined 3 print media for each of blue, red and yellow. This print is about how fractal patterns appear in nature. I have combined a cyanotype of a fern leaf on Japanese paper, with a red gel print and yellow lino block print of a fractal Sierpiński triangle.
It’s the day to celebrate the superb owls! All owls 🦉 are superb but here are some local favourites.
I love the whimsical terms of venery for groups of animals and have an ongoing series of #linocut#termsOfVenery prints. For my parliament of owls I made two columns of local owls - you can decide for yourself which are the government an which the loyal opposition in this parliament!

A cyanotype is an early photographic method, first used in 1842, made using a slow-reacting, photographic printing formulation sensitive to 300nm to 400nm known as UVA radiation.

From the same session as "Cassandra in Paris" came this composite shot (done in Photoshop) that I thought was very moody and ever so slightly surreal. Once I saw the rendering of the coffee toned cyanotypes, I had to try it. I'm sorely tempted to include a bowler hat brigade in my next RPG just so I can use this image...

As I was digging through my archives for pictures of Paris to coffee tone, I stumbled upon this image from a session with models back in 2013. I loved the way the stairs fall in the shadows, and Cassandre's fey look on this image. I decided to try out the same process, and I'm pretty pleased with the results !

After my first successful attempt with Coffee toning, I decided to give it a try with a different image: this frame within frame of the statue of Diderot at the bottom of the Tour Saint Jacques. I'm very pleased with the results here as well, even though the paper is a little bit more tainted. I've included a cyanotype print of the same image (though with 15s less exposure time, the inner arch is a lot more visible). I like them both, but the dark steel gray tones of the toned one really please me.

I finally got to some results I like with coffee toning. This is the first (hopefully) of a series of images, one per arrondissement in Paris that I'm designing to illustrate my upcoming roleplaying game set in Paris.This is a cyanotype print on Hahnemühle Harmony Hot Press that was then toned in coffee. I did not bleach the cyanotype first, I dunked the still wet print in hot water with instant coffee in it. I agitated for a few minutes and then let it rest overnight. I'm very pleased with the tones here, although the print was not well coated (I had some brush issues) so it may be that I will redo it. I'm also working on a new print (tonight, probably).
Last night I worked on a last minute present for my sister-in-law. Tea boxes from Hong Kong on A3 sized paper. Quite pleased with the results. #cyanotype

(Over the years, I have shot many, many doors. I can't quite explain the fascination, but it's there. For this New Year's I've decided to do a series of homemade cyanotype cards with doors of various cities.)
