I'm taking on the Mayday Mile to support the RNLI lifesavers during their busiest time of year. I'll be running at least a mile every day in May.

Every penny raised will help give the lifeboat volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue and save lives. Please help me to fundraise and make a lifesaving difference.

Work in progress. I like this pattern a lot (left hand image) but if you rotate it 90 degrees (right hand image) it looks terrible! There's some weird perceptual thing going on with the vertical lines that I'm trying to break up.

The same intracate fractal pattern as previously but rotated 90 degrees. A lot of vertical lines are now apparent.

More rug design with R!

Apparently you can get carpets woven from custom designs and this is very very tempting..

Has StackOverflow jumped the shark ? I have a bro, he works for a scientific institution, he's a really good coder/mathematician and a bit on the "OCD side for PRECISION" and such. He made a number of scientific publications so "he knows how to write/expose things" plus he often teaches stuff too. When he exposes "this is the problem, that's what I need" he's VERY clear".. so .. he put a few questions on Stack Overflow .. the last one was "does it exist a C++ library to write CONT.

@gilesgoat I have positive experiences from SO, but I don't know the C++ community. "Is there a library for..." questions are off topic but maybe this wasn't explained very clearly. I had the same issue to begin with, if you don't know how questions should be asked it can come across as unhelpful.

You can really push into some interesting territory with some persistence and tweaking.

@georgemsavva@genart.social avatar

@echevarian this is really cool. is it a pen plot?

@georgemsavva@genart.social avatar

@echevarian I'll look forward to the outcome

This output makes me think of roses although it looks nothing like them.

Still on the 'draw a fractal inside another fractal' thing. This is a julia set drawn inside something not entirely unlike a multibrot. Looking spookily organic.

I'm just going to keep posting these, as I can't stop making them and I've nothing else to do with them!

Another iteration of my flow fields generative system. I do intend to fully describe how this works but the blog post timeline is suffering from perfectionism at the moment

Hey gang, in my attempt to make the violin plots useful I am trying to overlay the true values of the simulation on the violins. Preferably tiny horizontal lines, but points are ok. This is as far as I got, since the true values have different names (b1,b3) as the simulation values (mrdoc2_b1_hat ...) I cannot overlay one on the other, how to go about it?

georgemsavva,
@georgemsavva@genart.social avatar

@lf_araujo maybe make a vector that corresponds to the key, like

key <- c("b1"="mrdoc2_b3_hat", "b3"="mrdoc2_b2_hat")

Then for the red dots set aes(x=key[var]) where var is what you currently have on the x axis.

Numerically calculated period 1 continent of the multibrots.

Not sure I got it completely correct, it doesn't always seem to overlap the fractal but it looks cool. Didn't expect it to be disconnected!

And I expected it to be prettier!

(edited to fix the loop issue)

@noneuclideandreamer my multibrots are not quite multibrots. I'm writing this up for a blog post so there will be some more exploration
