I wrote about a #problem with a #furnace in my #house. It was an #adventure, but the short version is my #HVAC contractor said it would be a $1500 #repair, as they would need to #replace the control board. I'd replaced a burnt relay, but it hadn't fixed the problem.
Well, after fiddling and prodding, I fixed it, and it #works perfectly.
Got a replacement blower #ECM#motor from northamericahvac.com - had to order from the States. Installed it, and ... furnace was still throwing an #error code meaning "incorrect #signal from ECM motor" once, then "no signal from ECM motor" forever after.
After double-checking, I saw the part number on the box didn't match what I'd ordered - but that turned out to be a red herring. The box number was for the unprogrammed motor.
So, I wasn't going crazy. The replacement, stupidly expensive and complicated ECM motor they shipped me was in fact DOA. Confirmed with a 2nd replacement I got today. I was about half-convinced I had done something wrong with the first replacement, but couldn't even guess at what.
I purchased a #replacement from Rheem. It arrived; I installed it, reconnected everything, turned the power back on, and ... the control board still showed #error 68: "incorrect #signal from #ECM".
They sent me the #wrong bloody motor, and I stupidly didn't triple-check the part number before installing it.
The motor itself is identical, just the programming is different.
I'm going to have a bit of a #tech#rant (less charitable people might say #whine) here. If you just want jokes and cute bunny pictures, feel free to skip this one.
Object of my #ire this week? #Furnaces. I'm not even going to rant about their main control boards; most of that's been said better than I could say it, by others with more knowledge than I.

Have to replace the furnace at my Dads place. Any #HVAC peeps? Wondering if we should go with a heat pump or furnace. Its a 800 sq ft home, one level, 2 bedrooms in south western Ontario. Thanks in advance. #Furnace#Heatpump
1/34 This started out as a much shorter thread about a related topic, but Something Happened and now it's a #LifeHack#instructional thread on keeping your house comfortable and saving #money and the #environment, through the magic of air movement. It's also timely, what with it being the start of the northern-hemisphere summer and southern-hemisphere winter.
