I wish there was a easier way to put Linux mobile on phones, I mean it's pretty painless to put Linux on desktops and laptops. What's the hold up on mobile devices? Yeah I know there are some good Linux mobile options, but they are still hard to port to just about any device.

Testing ... and testing ... and testing GCC is proving to be the longest-running bit of this "Linux From Scratch" build to date ...

All good fun and learning some new tricks, though! :linux: 🙂

Linux From Scratch pointed me to this useful beginner's guide to building and installing source code:

I did it! I built Linux from scratch! Built within a VM.

JonLiuFYI,

Bonus from-scratch nonsense: the Common Desktop Environment starting up. (Don't worry about what happened next.)

Then I tossed the VM because this whole adventure was already too much work.

Well so far playing around with on an old laptop I've up and running along with all my other stuff. I've built from source without issue and just setup printing / scanning . Using for services is a doddle too no cumbersome . Could :void: be about to replace on my daily ?
I think I need more time just to make sure that it's really for me but the results so far are in favour of Void.

@neil It's hard to say unless you're in my head to be honest. I like how minimal it is and the package management system. I also like runit in favour of systemd and it just feels so close to . It makes you have to work to get things working whereas on the likes of a lot of things get setup in the background that you don't think about. So you gain a greater understanding of how it all works and comes together.

My personal experience so far is that it makes you work to make it work so that in the end you completely understand how each separate piece operates kind of like . You ask have I actually built an system ? Yep I went there and it was fun but best of all is the sense of accomplishment once you get at the end.
How do I feel about it only a few days into testing it ? It's actually growing on me and I can see why some folk switch from to Void Linux.
