It's been a while since I wrote a post about #OpenBadges on my personal blog. This one is simply me writing down something I noticed about a decade ago - and which hasn't really changed:
Thinking about attempting to code an #ActivityPub service as a learning project, and to perhaps solve the social lock-in issue of gaming platform profiles that really pisses me off. 🤔
I really really don't like #DRM, however I'm way too attached to my almost 20 year old #Steam profile and like to do video game achievements. Having a unified, federated profile that pulls its data from all the different sources (Steam, PSN, Xbox, RetroAchievements.org and especially GOG) would be neat. #gaming
@Natanox I am not familiar with these game achievement systems, so this may not be usable for you..
I had various fediscussions in the past where some form of federated verified badges were mused about. Verified to avoid fakes. Various times #OpenBadges spec was mentioned, which is JSON-LD based.
Another thought is.. you may get into trouble using official artwork. But that may be an opportunity for artwork communities around badges and get fedi-art alternatives.
I've been an evangelist for #OpenBadges for 13 years at this point. The latest version of the spec has just come out (v3) which aligns with the #VerifiableCredentials data model
