It's not that often that a web app is miles ahead any native app but is that good. :1000:

, the alternative UI/UX for Mastodon, has just been built and deployed here on hear-me.social at https://phanpy.hear-me.social

If you haven't tried using Phanpy, you're missing out on a great experience. You should give it a try!

Don't forget, Mastodon has a columns interface too! 👀

I prefer the @phanpy Web client...

The shine is wearing off . While it does a few nice things with summarizing threads, the UI is crowded and overwrought, at the expense of the operations users do most often, such as boosting. Three clicks to boost is a deal breaker by itself, but the thing that clinched it was the tiny controls causing me to hit the wrong setting when muting. After having such problems several times, I think I'm done.

Revisiting the mastodon web client since I've never been that crazy about any client (currently use tusky and the web interface). Phanpy has come a ways and is fairly stylish, which I don't care much about. So far the #1 feature is that posts which appear on the timeline because of subscribed hashtags are conspicuously marked with the hashtag(s) above the post title. Going to take it around the block for a spin.

binaryphile,

Strongly dislike the three clicks required to boost.

Have to say, compressed thread viewing is outstanding with . Still unhappy about required number of clicks to boost.

One of my currently biggest "issues" with Friendica is handling re-sharing posts right. Like: If I use just "native reshare" on the post, behaviour differs according to where a post comes from. Meaning: Resharing Pixelfed or Mastodon posts will only make them visible to the AP crowd. Resharing Diaspora* posts will only make them visible for Diaspora* folks. Same for Tumblr and cough Bluesky. So I usually do use quote-sharing for content that matters (to me), which however results in being unable to use random Mastodon API clients (like , , ) for that - as in there, I can only (by now) boost Mastodon posts as far as it seems and I am unable to at least easily do a quote-share of an existing boost. Unfortunately, even though I really do force myself to use Friendica web / Frio all the time, it still leaves some things to be desired especially on mobile devices.
So, wondering: How do you folks handle this? Just use Friendica web and go with its "issues"? Just use whatever "reshare"/"boost" does without not bothering too much about who's able to see the posts? Or not interacting with any people outside the ActivityPub universe at all....?

vegos_f06,

@z428 Mastodon bashing would fit here... Diaspora is an isolated island. Technically I cannot judge AP and Diaspora protocol but I prefer AP for the greater community and the greater access to news sources. I hope development of AP goes on and the bad influence Mastodon will be minimized. Usual disclaimer: I do not blame the folks in my timeline for their network.

z428,

@vegos_f06 Oh well, I don't really like Mastodon bashing all too much, but asides the greater reach, I feel the more disappointed with ActivityPub the deeper I look into the specs and the things left open or unaddressed for reasons beyond my understanding. User consistency is definitely one of them.

Little question about . It seems that I don't see the "reblogs" in my Pixelfed account with Phanpy (no boost carrousel). I can see them with the default Pixelfed web interface. Is there an option to activate ?

@Phil_Traere you're right. I don't see them when I tested it out too in the beginning, thought maybe I didn't follow enough people 🫣. Will look into it, thanks! 🙇‍♂️

Hey @cheeaun, does @phanpy have any keyboard shortcuts to interact with media posts? Like play/pause for video/audio, and entering fullscreen mode for images? I like stepping through my timeline by pressing j/k, but frequently need to get back to using my mouse because I'm missing that. :( Also, I'd really love to get the currently selected post centered vertically on screen! 😅🙏

njamster,
@njamster@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@cheeaun True, but I need to move my hands away from the home row for that. 😅 I don't have any issue with the arrow keys doing that, it's just that I'd appreciate a secondary binding on <H>/<L>, that's all. :)

@StefanMuenz@vivaldi.net avatar

@fediverso

Btw, #Phanpy pleeeaaaase let me pick languages to pin on the post menu! I keep having to hunt down Spanish whenever I need to use it.

I don't remember needing to do it in vanilla UI. And if I recall correctly, vanilla has a searchable drop-down menu for it.

cheeaun,
@cheeaun@mastodon.social avatar

@thylacoleo hi, Phanpy dev here. If you've picked Spanish in your previous postings, it should be remembered and sorted to the top the next time.

Alternatively, you can pick the language in "Hide Translate button" section in Settings. It's a setting to hide the 'Translate' button for languages you already know, but it's also used to sort them up in the languages list while composing.
