A selection of from my files. An asphalt drive and abandoned parking lot at a rest stop in W. Michigan, being reclaimed by Life.

I love it when that happens.
I like to help it along.
Resisting takes too much energy.

Further up the drive, wild grapes, creeping blackberries, and poison ivy grapple with grasses and forbs to colonize the asphalt.
Maples are totally colonizing the cracks in the cement curbs of the drive.

The reclamation of behind is a project of the Pasay City government, in partnership with the SM Group. The project is estimated to cost P72 billion.

People are very tied to their language and don’t like change, especially when it #challenges a #PowerStructure . In #Winnipeg , Bishop Grandin, a symbol of #colonial power, is being #replaced by #languages of the #historically #oppressed : #Cree , #Ojibwe & #Métis . While this is precisely the point behind the change, it may make those uncertain about changing power structures uncomfortable.

@HistoPol This is a good article to read to understand why renaming street/place names is an important component of decolonization. It refers to US examples but it's same decolonization efforts that First Nations communities are working on in Canada.
