How the hell did I miss this implementation typo in Relatica’s spoiler alert code? I know how it happened. Dart string interpolation uses ${} for inserting expressions and I apparently mis-typed a second } instead of ). But I can’t believe I didn’t see the typo until today. Sorry folks :(

With all this Threads ActivityPub federation news I see a lot of people saying they don't want to ever see Threads content. I get the sentiment. I don't know if user-level domain filtering capabilities are coming to Friendica in the next release or not. If not it'd be a great thing to add like they have on Mastodon. However if you are using Relatica there is additional client-side filtering that you can apply. Just open up the drawer by clicking on the profile icon, and build your filter. You can either hide it entirely so you don't even know the post/comment is there or you can put it behind a warning card (as in the Elon Musk filter example from my settings).

Is anyone else having any stability problems with the current latest beta release of Relatica? On my iOS device everything seems fine. I don't use it as much on my macOS but I haven't seen a crash there either. On my Linux desktop however it seems to freeze up at least once a day and this morning for the first time the process died altogether. It makes me curious if others are seeing this on Linux or on devices I don't run it on: Android and Windows

Question for current Relatica testers (or potential future users): on the client side filtering do you think it would be better if the app remembered if you unhid a post/comment?

The latest beta of the Relatica mobile and desktop Friendica client, version 0.9.0, has just been released. Along with a slew of small bug fixes and tweaks this release now has a mechanism for viewing, filtering, and exporting the log events generated by the software. This will help users interact with developers (well me right now) in diagnosing problems on their system. This release also has the long requested feature of opening up tag searches on the user's home server not the remote server when they are clicked on. This is available for Apple and Google stores for those in the test program (ping me if you want access) and should have approval in the next 24 hours. Direct downloads for Android, Linux, and Windows are available from the install page.

The latest beta of the Relatica mobile and desktop Friendica client, version 0.8.0, has just been released. There are a lot of bug fixes, small new features, and small and large UI tweaks detailed fully in the CHANGELOG. Some of the biggest changes (some below screenshots showing) are simpler/nicer interactions bar, a unified timeline picker, a much more descriptive sign in/accounts manager screen, and the splash screen giving more details about what it is doing on initialization. That last one helps if the server is slow to respond. Another huge thing is Relatica is now in the Google Play store, but only available for "internal" testing. Those who would like access to that please DM me here or on Matrix so I can get your email address to add you to the allowed tester list. This is in review for the iOS and macOS stores so should be available within 24 hours. It is now available through Google Play store for those testers. Builds for Android, Intel Linux, and Intel Windows are available for direct download on the install page.

Just a heads up. The latest Friendica is going to have some nomenclature changes for Groups (now called Circles) and a reordering of action buttons on posts/comments to align with the order other sites use. Along with some other bug fixes and tweaks, I'm updating Relatica to reflect that as well.

The latest beta of the Relatica mobile and desktop Friendica client, version 0.7.2, has just been released. This fixes a bug in initial OAuth authorization the first time a user tries to connect to an account which has cropped up in the latest release candidate of Friendica. While it is fixed already it was still good to make the change to the client anyway. The Install file can be used for installing Android, Linux, and Windows version. Apple has it in review for iOS and macOS users so should be available within the next 24 hours. If you would like to join the beta on Apple platforms feel free to DM me here, on Matrix, or in the Relatica Matrix room. Enjoy! gitlab.com/mysocialportal/rela…

@hankg could Relatica save the information which group/circle was viewed last and start with that instead of my general timeline? Or maybe a setting which group to show when starting the app?

benjamin, to mastodon

has really filled the empty space of clients. @hankg has been working on this solo (from my understanding), and it’s honestly more functional than some “polished” apps, for example.

I'm trying to do a bit of a social media detox (more just timeboxing my social media usage) but still want to post things. I therefore think I may add a "focus mode" to Relatica. My thought is that in focus mode is really about shutting out access to the timeline. So the only timeline you'll be able to see are your own posts. Notifications would be disable as with all other timelines. Creating posts will be fine. Browsing comments on your posts and commenting on comments would work too. Just a thought...

@hankg Hello. Is it possible to get access to the iOS beta of ?

hankg, to fediverse

I knew I should have made the timeouts on API calls user-configurable in the latest Relatica :(. Unfortunately some standard queries to Friendica take way way too long and the 30 second limit is just not enough time. One of my favorite Groups (Mastodon lists) often takes just more than 30 seconds to return with its timeline data. So I'm SOL on that in the current release. Working on fixing that substantially is something I hope to double back around to once Relatica is released at 1.0 status. In the mean time, bumping up that timeout value and making it a user-configurable setting is high priority for the next release.

PS this sort of stuff is why I am still keeping it in beta. People who knowingly sign up for these sorts of growing pains roll with it. Random people who found the app on the website understandably would not.

The latest beta of the Relatica mobile and desktop Friendica client, version 0.6.0, has just been released. This release includes three major new features: blocks management, post/comment filtering, and image gallery management functions. It also includes fixes for the jankiness and apparent freezing that could be seen when processing posts coming back from the server, a problem where delayed logins could prevent the app from loading, and several other bug nits. The CHANGELOG file has more details. The Install file can be used for installing Android, Linux, and Windows version. Apple has it in review for iOS and macOS users so should be available within the next 24 hours. Open question to the Relatica community, or potential Relatica users in the fediverse. I'm implementing user-side filtering right now, which is unfortunately not something in Friendica and would be harder for me to implement there than client side. That's things like put posts behind a spoiler type banner if they have certain hashtags or hide them entirely if they come from a specific domain. It'll actually allow for more complex combinations of filtering on authors, content, hashtags, and domains. Like one could have a filters that do: "Hide posts from User X with Hashtags A, B, C" and "Put a warning card up for posts with these keywords in the post body from domains that end with *.social". My question comes for if this should be an app-wide setting or a per-account setting, for users with multiple accounts. Because the type of accounts people have could be radically different I'm thinking it should be per-account. Thoughts?

Using with recent versions and the web client in parallel already is quite a pleasant experience. Now all it probably needs is notifications to replace Mastodon-API clients here. 🙂

The latest beta of Relatica mobile/desktop client for Friendica is now released: 0.5.0. This release today was prompted to fix the reshared post issues with the latest Friendica 2023.04 server software but I had been building up a bunch of big new things for 0.5.0 that are in this as well. This is the first release with a responsive design for desktop and tablets. So images and videos in posts now scale, timeline widths don't stretch forever, et cetera. Videos are playable in the full size media screen (except on Linux). Links now open in the system browser not an in-Relatica web view. You can do all your group (Mastodon Lists) management in the app now. There are a bunch of other tweaks as well listed in the CHANGELOG file. This is also the first release where I'm posting binaries that work on Ubuntu 20-based Linux distros. This should cover a lot more Linux distros than previously not just Ubuntu of course. Binaries are up for all platforms besides Mac/iOS but those are in review now and should be released in the next day or so by Apple. gitlab.com/mysocialportal/rela…

To all Relatica app users, there is a regression in the Mastodon API endpoint in the latest release of Friendica with respect to reshared posts. Essentially reshared posts will show up in your timeline but any interactions with them will not work. This will manifest as things like when you "like" a post it doesn't change status, not showing the comments listed, etc. I had a new 0.5 version of Relatica coming out soon anyway. I'll try to create a work around that works specifically for servers running 2023.04 of Friendica. I'm tracking the issue at the below link for Relatica. It has a link to the Friendica GitHub issue as well. gitlab.com/mysocialportal/rela…

Friendica 2023.04 just dropped today! Can't wait to upgrade to use some of the polished up API endpoints in Relatica! Some are already in there but not working since Relatica checks the Friendica version and knows what can and can't be done (like post editing) for a given version. Others I really wanted my real data to be available for me to implement with. So stoked either way. Hats off to the whole Friendica team! friendi.ca/2023/04/23/friendic…

The latest beta of Relatica mobile/desktop client for Friendica is now released: 0.4.0. The two biggest features are that it supports animated GIF attachments and now all platforms have video support thanks to a new Flutter library called "media_kit". That is along with a host of smaller changes mentioned in the CHANGELOG file. Right now due to some hiccups with XCode 14.3 the Mac version has to be directly downloaded and won't be through TestFlight. Otherwise for everyone else the installation and update process is status quo. More details, install instructions, etc. are at the below link
