It’s been a while since I’ve posted some #RetroComputing goodness. Time to fix that!
This is my 2020 13” #Apple MacBook Pro running System 7.1, thanks to Mini vMac. The environment is running at 640x400—the native resolution of the old 100-series PowerBooks. Much to my surprise and delight, this is a 16:10 aspect ratio, and it appears perfectly proportioned on this display.
And this isn’t a toy. I set up a PDF printer, and the PDFs can be passed to the host machine for viewing and printing!
@digichelle@DanielMReck@RyanWelsh Susan Kare designed the bitmap Chicago typeface for the original #Macintosh in 1984. It was already long in the tooth by 1995 and #Apple replaced it with Charcoal as the default system font for 1997’s #MacOS 8.
The #TrueType version released with #System7 was fugly, though! Chicago was always supposed to be a low-res font that could have every other pixel removed to “gray out” disabled menu items.
