… so close now (finally - this has been taunting me since the start of December)with the prince of wales check jacket. Still got the buttons and button holes to go: one at centre front and six on the sleeve vents.

Matching fabric-covered button held up to its position on the jacket front.

Happy holidays to . I’m mostly sleeping this week, but there’s some slow progress on the merino check jacket. About to brave the lining, and already cursing my choice of the red silk twill. It’s beautiful for sure, but it will not stay still!

Jacket front pieces laid together on table. Lapels and collar piece have interfacing sewn in, and visible on.
Pattern pieces laid out on bright red silk twill lining fabric, lightly pinned, but soon to be EXTENSIVELY pinned before cutting

Ok votes please! I've almost finished my winter party dress (with shades of a C18 wrapping gown/piratical banyan)... but what colour buttons should I use? Option 1, soft green, perfectly pick up the colours of the leaves, or option 2, dark pink, which go more with the base colour. Both types of buttons are 15mm in diameter, so don't affect the size of buttonhole to be set. @sewinguk @sewing

Button option 2, dark pink 4-hole corozo nut buttons, with slightly recessed central holes, and a wide flat border. Shown against the dress fabric. Several (17) buttons in the picture.
Button option 1, soft darkish green 4-hole corozo buttons, with a narrow raised rim, shown against the dress fabric. Several (many-many-many-two) buttons in the picture.

confession… I lost all patience with the red silk dress, so I have put it aside and been making a very short shirt-dress. Looks like denim from a distance, but is actually the wool/silk blend houndstooth. Really lovely fabric to work with, and will be to wear.

Close up on the fabric of the shirt dress. From a distance it looks like denim, and it’s about the right weight/substance, but it’s a fine houndstooth in a melange of navy, bright blue, and pale grey.

Not at the stages this weekend, but I am finally tackling this blazer dress… with a few edits:

  1. I’m going to have to split it with a waist seam. My hip measurement is a clear THREE dress sizes bigger than my waist measurement, which is way more than I want to grade out on the side seam. Cutting skirt and bodice separately let’s me distribute the difference across those twin front and back darts.

Pattern technical drawings, emphasing details such as the notched collar rather low on the chest, and paired waist darts (8 total).

Good morning, lovely people! Gibson has come out to see why that hen is making so much noise🤣 Saturdays have become my primary sewing day, but since I plan on using @cmdln trip to sew in the middle of the night, I think I will do more tracing, cutting and maybe muslining (is that a word?) stuff for next weekend. He's getting his COVID booster, so the rest of the weekend should be quiet.

Good morning, lovely people! Meditation and caffeination have already been achieved. The plan for this day includes: walkies, the grocery for a couple items, cleaning (Thursday is usually vacuum/mopping day) and more prep. I would like to test the theory that the dogs let me sew in peace when he's not working.

I haven't finished the shirt yet, but wanted to show off my pattern-matching on the cuff! @sewing @elfkin

@sewing @sewing FO: this is the Hemlock hoodie from Buttons and Blueprints. This is one of my most used patterns.

Good morning, lovely people! The 2 big tasks for today are: going to another showroom recommended by our contractor and weekly menu planning and grocery shopping. My plans are somewhat ambitious: cut out a couple of Hemlock hoodie dresses in FT.

Hey ! I totally messed up the top I was trying to make last weekend (mainly due to me not realising that what I needed to do was the burrito method) so I tried again this weekend with a couple of leftover fabrics. Managed to make it work (yay!) - pretty pleased with the look of it until I put it on and saw the unfortunate pattern vs boob placement! Next time will be better @sewing @sewing

Good morning, lovely people! Dog walkies and meditation are already achieved. I think we might go look at cabinets for the upcoming kitchen remodel. Other than that, I would like to finish my tennis dress or trace out the Nocturne pajamas.

- plum jacket latest.

I thought about button placement, and then gave myself up to lying on the sofa like a wimpy Jane Austen side character.

(I absolutely BET poor Jane Fairfax had CFS. Probably untreated hypothyroidism too. Ugh!)

I hemmed the sleeves twice (including lining 😭). They were just a shade short for my preference before, but at least I had plenty of turn-up to let out.

Close up of buttons loosely placed along the front placket of the plum tweed jacket. There’s a look at the brighter, magenta-ish purple lining inside the jacket

Finally finished my birthday fabric dress (I was given fabric company vouchers for my birthday, and bought 7 metres of viscose/linen blend, very heavily inspired by Indian block prints). @sewing

latest…

Here’s the houndstooth Italian wool wrap dress, as near finished as it needs to be today. I will absolutely wear this.

A couple of details I’m pleased with:

The tie opening on the side seam is reinforced inside with a scrap of leather - invisible on the outside.

The hems are kind of low-rent for the fancy fabric: just overlocked and turned in: quite visible (though colour-matched). More importantly, it keeps that curved edge, and especially the flounce nice & fluid

Detail from the inside waistband shows the side slit for the waist tie to pass through is reinforced with a scrap of leather
Outside view of the waist tie passing through the reinforced opening in the side-seam. It’s really very unobtrusive.
Detail of the the skirt edge showing the seam construction. It’s very simple: overlocked in a pretty well matched grey thread, turned in once, and then double top-stitched nice and flat.

@sewing I think I am finally happy with the fit of this top pattern. I created a one piece neck and armhole facing to replace the binding. I'm not sure I am happy with that, but it will take a test drive to see if it lays right and stays all day. Then, it will be assembly line time!

@sewing Do you have plans for ? I traced out the Solar Sundress from George and Ginger to wear during walkies and hope to at least cut it out.

Ok peeps, vote time. Which buttons: the slightly lighter ones with four holes, or the slightly darker ones with two holes? @sewing
