Yoyofactory are doing their annual A-May-Zing sale all month. Each day are new deals. As far as unresponisve #yoyo suggestions, I like the Edgeless a lot. If you buy an unresponsive yo-yo, you'll need to know how to bind, which isn't difficult to learn. If you are looking for a classic responsive yo-yo, the Arrow might be a good fit.
If you have any questions, feel free to hit me up and I'll try to help. I don't work for YYF and haven't used most of these models. https://yoyofactory.com/collections/all-products?filter.v.price.gte=&filter.v.price.lte=&sort_by=created-descending
Pedro Flores, the Filipino American immigrant who is known as the "Father Of Yo-Yo", was born on this day in 1896. So I made this drawing to celebrate his birthday.
The #yoyo (also known as the bandolore) had been around for centuries, but Pedro created a new method of attaching the string in the 1920s that allowed the toy to "sleep" when it reached the bottom of the string. Up until his invention, yo-yos only went up and down! In 1932, Pedro sold his company to Don Duncan. #PedroFlores
#PaulEscolar was an extremely talented yo-yoer and artist who passed away in 2021. Though I met him through #yoyo, I was a huge fan of Paul's illustrations and line work. The dude was a genius with a sharpie.
I'm excited that the folks at Method Made are putting together a show based on Paul's work. The show opens tonight, April 20th, at 4:20 pm at 2544 Mission Street in #SanFrancisco.
I had always hoped to film an interview with Paul about his art and the influence he had on the #yoyo community, but I never had the chance. I regret that, but I was able to find a rare interview with Paul about his art. Thanks to The Method Makers for allowing me to republish it here in its entirety: https://doctorpopular.com/the-method-makers-interview-with-paul-escolar/
A friend of mine used his Icarus #yoyo as a pinhole projector during today’s #eclipse. Folks always ask me why I put so many holes in this yo-yo. Now I finally have a good answer.
Our next San Francisco Yo-Yo Club is at 3pm on Saturday, March 16th. We'll be at Yerba Buena Gardens, but we'll move it inside the Metreon food court if it ends up raining. Players of all skill levels are invited to join! We hope to see you there.
If traveling by BART, the Gardens are a short walk from both the Powell + Montgomery Street stations. The CalTrain Station at Fourth and Townsend is served directly by MUNI with stops on Third Street at Howard and at Mission. #SanFrancisco#YoYo
Thanks to KitTea Cafe for sharing their space with me. If you enjoyed the video, please pass it around. It's one of my favorite episodes of PopCast so far.
Some fun with the Oasis #yoyo by Dressel Designs. This is a full bodied steel yo-yo, which is kind of rare to see because steel is such a heavy metal. Dressel did a good job with this though.
Work in progress. I’ve been thinking about designing one of a kind stickers using a self inking stamp and Post-It Notes. This “tongue tied” illustration might be the first of these stickers.
