Drop a beat (#yoyo style)

A video of Doc Pop playing with a yo-yo. He is doing a style called Moebius, where you open up the finger loop that is normally on your finger and try to do tricks inside that loop. In this video he throws a yo-yo, pulls it back to his hand and catches it in a stall within the finger loop (aka a "Moebius stall"). He then swings the yo-yo forward and lets go of the loop, attempting to flip the yo-yo and catch the loop back on his finger. He fails several times and the yo-yo keeps crashing to the floor. The video is edited in a way that this eventually becomes a beat. Eventually he lands the trick.

I've had these counterweight #yoyo concepts rattling around in my head, so I tried polishing them up into something a little more solid.

Today I learned that the music video for 4 Non Blonde's "What's Up?" was filmed in #SanFrancisco and has two short scenes of a person playing with a #yoyo in front of #SFGraffiti by the legendary Barry McGee (aka TWIST).

The video is shot in a really nice looking indoor mall and the video cuts and changes the location frequently, but it does it in a way where the tricks all line up and make sense. Even though the location changes, the moves are consistent. The yo-yo tricks are intricate string tricks with slack elements.

Weird #yoyo tricks with the PLTPS. This is one of two new yo-yos coming to my site in January 2024.

Me playing with a responsive green yo-yo. The yo-yo is a PLTPS and looks like a slim metal yoyo with plastic outer rims. There is also a counterweight on the end of the string that is made out of the same green plastic as the yoyo.

Yoyofactory are doing their annual A-May-Zing sale all month. Each day are new deals. As far as unresponisve #yoyo suggestions, I like the Edgeless a lot. If you buy an unresponsive yo-yo, you'll need to know how to bind, which isn't difficult to learn. If you are looking for a classic responsive yo-yo, the Arrow might be a good fit.

The hardest #yoyo trick I know.

Me throwing a yo-yo sideways and getting it to do a trick called the UFO. This trick unwinds the string and I pull the yo-yo up just as it’s completely coming off of the unraveling string, I then catch the yo-yo, which is spinning on its side and unattached from the string, onto my pointer finger. It spins on my finger for a few seconds.

Pedro Flores, the Filipino American immigrant who is known as the "Father Of Yo-Yo", was born on this day in 1896. So I made this drawing to celebrate his birthday.

The #yoyo (also known as the bandolore) had been around for centuries, but Pedro created a new method of attaching the string in the 1920s that allowed the toy to "sleep" when it reached the bottom of the string. Up until his invention, yo-yos only went up and down! In 1932, Pedro sold his company to Don Duncan. #PedroFlores
